You will find only how many people actually give to certain poverty fighting charities, and even at that it would not necessarily be accurate, as much poverty fighting comes from organizations that are not necessary touted as fighting poverty organizations but as start up support to sustainable businesses and so on.

Nola Akiwowo Just have to ask.... I love my current gig at my non-profit, and would like to prep myself for upper management / executive status one day. Should I consider grad school in non-profit management or public policy? Should I just take certificate courses? Or should I stick with learning on the job?

Jeanetta Bennett I recently had a job offer w/ a nonprofit and they offered me the same amount of money I am making now. I would really like to take the job except I haven't had a raise in 2 years (city gov. spending freeze). I asked if they would consider offering more and I'm still waiting to hear back. I'm pretty miserable at my current job and I'm feeling nervous about possibly missing the non-profit job. If they don't offer me more should I take it anyway or just move on and wait? Anyone have any advice?

Sponsorship is moving more and more toward customization, which I think is very important in this field. Once you have your baseline of benefit information, approach your previous or potential sponsors and try to come up with a customized package based on their needs or wants. Any questions, just let me know! ~Lindsey

Shaina Is there a graceful way to withdraw your name from being further considered in the interview process? I had a final interview for a position today, and though I've not yet got an offer, it looks likely. I realized during the interview it's no longer something I'd like to pursue, but I need to preserve these relationships as I see/work with these folks daily (it's a partner organization). What's the right way to do this? Should I wait for an offer? Or nip this in the bud now?

So call them today (not tomorrow, but today!) let them know that you have decided to withdraw from candidacy (you may need to tell them why or at least something credible as to why) and that you wanted to let them know as soon as you made that decision. Then send them a follow up letter thanking them for the consideration.

I actually took the bull by the horns this morning before work and pulled my main contact aside for a quick conversation, thanking her for the opportunity and explaining why I felt I needed to stick with my current position. Sabrina E. Hall I’m interested in finding a mentor that will assist me in my career growth and would like some advice. Based on Mrs. Indra Nooyi’s advice, CEO of Pepsico, “mentors select you, not the other way around. Mentors work to consciously build your image and develop you.” Do you believe the first part of this statement is true or does this it apply only in certain sectors? How did you find your mentor or did the person find you?

I've had several mentors, but have never concisously sought one out; I worked with them "for free" and showed them how quickly I could learn from them, execute on their visions, etc. and everything happened sort of holistically.

I do believe mentors choose you, but do not think it's something that can be forced. That said, again - this goes back to the type of person you are. I believe in / like deep, intense relationships; which is something I would not be able to force. Kaite Welsh I'm a project officer in the UK looking to move into management, but I'm finding myself on a career plateau. Do you think I should take some formal training? PRINCE2 is a popular piece of PM software, but training is expensive & I'm on a temporary contract (that keeps getting extended at the last minute, making it hard to convince my manager that I'm worth sending on any formal training) so I don't want to invest in sthing when I might not even be able to make my rent next month. Any ideas?

I think there's some truly inspirational people out there as per any Generation, it's just that time hasn't passed enough yet to truly see their impact.

I guess you probably wouldn't have heard of Regeneration (http://www.regeneration.org.nz/) which is an NZ based program/network of young people who're on the ground training to, making, documenting, and sharing their positive change projects.

You might also be interested in inspiringstories.org.nz - this is a good friend's organisation with a big mission. They're awesome too.

It's out there, it's happening - perhaps we just need to know how to connect with it and teach people to share it with the world as effectively as Gillette can communicate the benefits of a 7 blade shaving system....

@Kristine, interesting area consumer research - I studied a lot of 'behavioural aspects of marketing' (the academic version basically) at Uni and was quite fascinated (and scared) by some of what I learnt. There's some interesting software out there for discovering social media trends as they're rising now too. I hope someone's researching the rise and rise of sustainable products & truly green companies.

Really no systems. We talk on the phone and gchat. They bought me a webcam (at my request), but we never use it. We're a very fluid company tech-wise already so it's not a large leap to work remotely. I'm full-time (more than full-time really!), and I also do freelance work on the side.

I would really love some co-working spaces here or to connect with other remote workers/freelancers. I'm definitely missing that a bit or just haven't found it yet.

So if you love your job (which it sounds like you do), then you need to up the social. Do you have shared office spaces in DC? I have only spent time there as a tourist..

Alice.com looks interesting - quite a techy build? Looks like it does some interesting sorting & finding for people anyway.

I guess as long as phone/gchat works for you guys then that's all good! I'm interested in how things are changing + what might be possible in 5 years time - if we can connect on a rich enough level that we didn't have to commute to an office every day, then would we still want to?
