John Wilder Hey Amber, if you pursue psychology in school, you should stay in contact with me. People need mentors. I was not fortunate enough to have one, I had to learn the hard way.

I will be going to school for psychology eventually, but my life is not being very forgiving right now, and it may take a while to get there.

Cheryl Lynn Morris Amber, I recommend reading true crime writer Ann Rule's advice that starts with "My mail continues to be full of frightening pleas for help from women who are trapped by Domestic Violence." The website is http://www.annrules.com/journal/default.asp?PagePosition=45 I also like the advice on the website http://www.members.tripod.com/susanlevine0/id55.htm about "Dangerous Mates". Hope this helps you keep safe.

What made everyone here decide to go into psychology? Was there something that triggered it, did you just kind of drift into it, or was it something you always knew you would do?

Psychologists traditionally talk about feelings rather than resolve problems. Coaches are different, we teach conflict resolution and work on directly resolving the problem. I am different in that I have a money back gaurantee. Try and get that from a traditonal pyschologist.

John Wilder Amber: If you are involved with a man with this personality disorder, you must run don't walk away from him. Many idealistic young women see themselves as a rescuer and feel that they can change the guy. This is not possible. Guys with this personality disorder are not fixable REPEAT NOT FIXABLE, POISONOUS! Please listen to me, I am old enough to be your daddy, I know that these guys can be personally charming and disarming. You can't fix him, run away. Break it off with him

I have found a mental disorder that I have become rather stuck on. It's called antisocial personality disorder. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this specific disorder. It's has got to be one of the most troubling disorders I have ever seen, if not the most.

To give you an idea, almost all the kids I worked with had other diagnoses aswell: ADD/ADHD, conduct disorder, attachment disorder, PSTD, MR/DD, bipolar, mania, borderline personality, schizophrenia, etc. The only thing we could do for these kids is act as a holding pen. They were eventually shipped to another placement, and will do so for the rest of their lives, most likely.

Therefore, all persons with asd will have several other disorders as well. Asd seems to be the label placed on a person who has so many things going wrong with them that they don't fit into any other disorder, but all other disorders at the same time. It's kind of a catch all, if you will. Which is why so many go unhelped. It's hard to deal w/multiple mental conditions.

Hey everyone. I apologize for being a bit out of it but grad school is talking it's toll lately. However, I ran across this Google Talk about Optimizing Your Brain at Work and it seemed too perfect not to post here. Check it out and let us know what you think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeJSXfXep4M (SLYT)

I've always thought about HM's humanity with the types of memory problems he had so I felt sad watching his autopsy. I cannot wait for the results - should be fascinating to match up all the neuropsych tests and behavioural obs with neuroanatomy and pathology. What a great resource! More importantly what a great man.

Robert Bairstow I'm just not sure how to actually start something like this. Does all it take is a few classes?

Robert Bairstow I have always been the one where my friends and family come to for help with thoughts and someone to just listen to them.
