Erik Brown Anyone have some free time to chat about mobile app development and the associated costs (time, money, aggrevation)? I'm really interested in the space and really have no idea what goes into it. I'd be happy to send you a gift box or karma points or maybe even one of those creepy fruit bouquets.

Ryan Paugh Some Canadian official is trying to convince teachers to let students use mobile phones in the classroom (http://bit.ly/bXMl9F). I think this is a stupid idea. I'm all for integrating social technology into education, but I'm a little conservative when it comes to in-person eduction. I think time spent learning in a real-world setting is important. Adding more social tech to homework assignments is great, but these kids need to spend time unplugged, too.

They're even paying people to do it for them. It's funny. You wouldn't see this happening a couple years ago. School Boards would be doing backflips.

Josh Allan Dykstra Hey friends -- I'm looking for a genius programmer type who can build sleek and clean mobile applications across multiple platforms (iPhone, iPad, Droid, Blackberry, etc.). Should also have an eye for design, though most of the prelim design work will be done elsewhere. Also, must be a reliable, communicative, and fun person. These are paid projects. Many thanks for referrals!

Ryan Paugh Read a couple months ago about how Twitter bought out Tweetie (http://bit.ly/cAW3pz) but just noticed this weekend as I was updating my apps that they finally rebranded. It was a little frustrating because I had to re-add all of my Twitter accounts. Did this bug anyone else? The bigger question I have is what will Twitters next move be? Are they in the market to acquire any other Twitter apps?

Alyson Kilday Hi everyone! I've been thinking of creating a mobile app, still in the early stages of planning/design but anyone here who has created one? What are the steps that should be followed? How do you recommend going about it? Also I'm a designer but not the strongest of programmer, what should I look for when finding a programmer to work with?

I don't use names, I discuss incidents or operations which I don't necessarily agree with. Mostly, because I'm curious about others perceptions, and their advice for dealing with similar situations. I don't think it's wrong, I think it's ok to ask advice and to give examples of what you might be dealing with.

Ryan Paugh What's your etiquette for picking up the phone when your spending quality time with your significant other? My girlfriend and I are both guilty of checking our email or answering a text message when we're supposed to be focused on each other. We try to set rules, but we don't always follow them. What are your rules, and what are the exceptions to those rules?

During "date" time (dinner, watching TV/Movies together, etc.) we either have our phones off or in another room. Even though my cell phone is my business phone, I don't answer it during dinner, period; during out date times, I check the caller ID and if it's a client, I answer. If it's friends, family, or a business, I don't. We also have a no texting/tweeting rule about dinner / "date time" with the exception of the first five minutes we're in a restaurant, movie theatre, etc. so we can check in on Foursquare.

I'm planning on getting one. My reason for wanting one is I use my iPhone a lot and I'm always thinking "I wish this was bigger and faster".

I like browsing the web on mobile safari, I think google reader on the iPhone is amazing and when I tried it on an iPad in the store I was blown away. I'd want to read my pdf ebooks which will require an app but will be a better experience then on any laptop/netbook with a horizontal screen.

I think this will be a great device to carry around with me (I'll be getting the 3G one) in addition to my iPhone. I rarely want to pull out my laptop when I'm sitting on the couch or in bed so this will be great instead of my tiny iPhone especially with the screen lock switch.

This device is not replacing any current device but rather it is just the right tool for a bunch of situations where I'm currently making do with other devices. There will still be times where the right tool is my laptop or my iPhone, but there are times where the iPad will be the right fit.
