Brett Kunsch The Jersey Shore Guide to Irresistible Personal Branding http://bit.ly/f3LnNi Wow...I thought this was just a headline looking to get some attention but it really delivered and gave me something to think about regarding personal branding and marketing. Like it or not, those characters from the shore have carved out quite the audience essentially by being heightened versions of themselves. Maybe not too heightened though :)

That's right, only one member of the original cast (Sammi) is from NJ. The only reason that show is allowed on the tv at my house at all now is because the new member, Deena, is from my home-town...although her family is a member of the group labeled "New Yorker" by us natives.

Ryan Paugh Was anyone offended by the Groupon Tibet commercial during the Superbowl? Immediately after it aired there was a huge amount of backlash on Twitter. I think it was borderline offensive. It wasn't even funny in an off-color humor kind of way. Living Social on the other hand had a pretty funny commercial. I wonder how they both spent their Superbowl dollars will affect their growth...

Ryan Paugh I freaking love these Honda Jazz ads >> http://bit.ly/9vnRcR If you haven't seen them it's because I think they only sell this car in Australia. In the US it's branded differently. Double high five to Honda for putting out an interesting ad campaign and of course for including hipsters in there. Gotta love hipster jokes. If you're down in Australia can you tell me how these ads were received? Honda should do a US-based campaign like this one.

Ryan Paugh Is anyone out there part of a company who is in the middle of a rebranding? I'm interested in hearing about some of the issues you are facing. Are you worried that your existing customers won't like your new look and feel? Comedy Central and Starbucks recently did a rebranding and they received a lot of negative feedback from their loyal followers. I'm wondering whether or not this will really affect them or if it's just natural reaction to change.

There might be compelling reasons to embark on rebranding but it could be counterproductive if its not properly handled. This is because humans generally detest change and naturally view it as distruptive. The solution to me is having a phased rebranding exercise. UPS is a good example of this, the company's brand identity has been undergoing periodic and subtle changes. Alries has a very good write up on this on his site

Brett Kunsch Generation Y has such a slippery definition. There are so many date ranges out there that it seems one can be belonging to 3 different generations all at the same time. Can someone born in 1976 really be part of the same generation as someone born in 1998? Perhaps it doesn't matter *psycho-graphically* speaking, that I agree with. But what about the Demographics? [please refer me to a thread if this has already been asked on Brazen]

Kyeongseok Min repeat with fun. i guess to repeat a familiar plot with a variety of fun is what the audience of media is looking for. many tv dramas or movies has a similar story with different actors, backgrounds, and it ends up with one of predictable endings. the difference between a successful story telling and not successful story telling is a little bit of interesting twist in the same plot. without knowing this differences, they make a mistake of too much creative contents for the ad viewers to accept

Ryan Paugh I saw something that I really liked on Hulu last night. Whenever a commercial played there was a tiny pop up in the right-hand corner of the ad that said: Is this ad relevant to you? I clicked No and the pop up went away. I love that advertisers are doing this and that internet TV opens such doors. Lord only knows how they're using the data they collect, but seems like a step in the right direction to me. What do you guys think?

I watch it when I don't have access to my cable TV. One thing I always find interesting about Hulu though is that they're always trying new things. I've experienced the 2-3 commercial break experience, but also occasionally got an offer to watch a full show uninterrupted if I spend 1-2 minutes filling out a survey. Even if it's not perfect, I think that's pretty cool. I'm hoping they do something beneficial w/ the data their collecting from the ad feedback feature. If anyone finds out anything concrete, please let us know.

I have also used the "relevant"/"not relevant" buttons, though not very often so without any visible result. I still like that they are even asking, though.

I think the reason that sometimes the ads don't change is that those are the only advertisers (or there are only a few advertisers) who have selected that show or type of show. Thus Hulu doesn't really have anything else to serve you. They are still struggling with getting ad revenue, unless I miss my guess.

Rebecca Thorman So, what do you all think about the the new "Like" vs "Fan" on Facebook? Are you planning on changing your language on your site and in emails ("Like us on Facebook" from "Fan us on Facebook") Facebook says they hope the action will feel much more lightweight, and that it will increase the number of connections made across the site. Will it make a difference? Will it depend on the brand?
