Haven't you heard? This is Brazen HQ!
This is a group for all you Brazen'ites out there who call Madison your home. Let's kick it sometime over a beer and a brat.
Anything cool happening in Madison for Chinese New Year? Sure! Jump in your car, hop up on the freeway and head southeast for two hours. Once in Chicago, head on down to Wentworth and Cermak and you'll find something cool for Chinese New Year.
If you want to stay local, the six Chinese people in this town *might* be celebrating if you can find them.
...and stay away from Yen Ching unless you enjoy vomiting. Imperial Garden on U and Allen is FAR superior.
Besides the Madison Social Media Club Kelly was just writing about, what are the other good events/organizations for the local web industry scene?
As one of the founders of a new Madison startup I'm anxious to meet other web startups and meet (and hopefully hire) great people.
Who's connected and knows the hubs?
Hey Lucas, you should connect with our friends Nate Lustig & Jesse Davis. They run the Capital Entrepreneurs.
Here's a link to their website: http://www.capitalentrepreneurs.com/
You can also find them both on Brazen Careerist:

There is also Web608.org which is not only it's own group but it's also an umbrella website for many other local web groups. Web608 already has monthly Geek Dinners, but starting this month there will also be presentations about things of interest to people involved with the web. I'll be leading the Web608 meetings but I haven't scheduled the first one yet.
Yeah yeah. I had the good fortune of meeting Abraham Williams, who was actually involved with Logical Consensus in its previous iteration, so I'm on the web608 bandwagon, though I haven't made it to a geek diner yet. Really looking forward to the presentation/talk series. Thanks
Madison MAGNET is great - Dale Beermann (http://www.brazencareerist.com/profile/dale-beermann, @beermann) heads up the Entrepreneur committee. He also co-founded Propel Wisconsin - http://www.propelwi.com/.
Also, check out this list of tech groups in town- http://www.ibmadison.com/webchefcafe?id=375
Accelerate Madison has two great programs coming up, my CEO is speaking in March.
The deadline to enter has passed, but you might want to keep your eye on the Wisconsin Governor's business plan competition.

Checking out the past entrants could be a good way to connect with other web startups.
Ryan, I just added you. Rebecca, you too. Hopefully that's cool with you! For anyone else that wants to be added, let me know or send an email to madisonsmc@gmail.com.
Hey Madison folks: If you haven't already, check out the Madison Social Media Club: http://madisonsmc.org/ (@MadisonSMC). We're just getting started and would love to have some Brazen folks be a part of it. First meeting is coming up later in February!
I definitely want to be involved and was telling some of the other members to keep me up to date. Great idea!
@Rebecca - Yay! Glad you want to be involved! Board members are in the process of putting together their committees now, so if you are interested in getting involved that way, check out the different committees here: http://madisonsmc.org/theboard/. Details for the first meeting are still being worked out, but when they're confirmed I'll be sure to post an update!
Madison startup looking for 2 additional PHP/mySQL skilled web devs. Want to change the world? Come help. http://bit.ly/8joJRj
Alice just posted an Account Manager job opening in Middleton ... Check it out if you're interested on their Employer Branding Page - http://www.brazencareerist.com/alice
Jake Wood, a former UW fb player who joined the Marines after graduation. He's now retired and has led a civilian mission to Haiti to provide medical relief. They are completely self funded and need donations. Please check out his blog http://badgerjake.blogspot.com/ and donate if you can. I can vouch that the money will be spent actually helping people. Jake is an amazing person and is providing help as we speak. Please donate if you can. http://badgerjake.blogspot.com/
Anyone from Madison heading down to Austin for SXSW Interactive? I'm looking into booking my hotel and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.
I'm probably attending. Once you register, you can put your name into the hotel queue to get the SXSW rates for whatever hotel you choose. The closest are already booked I think. Check out availability - http://sxsw.com/hotels/availability and the map - http://sxsw.com/attend/hotels/map/
I thought about going and staying with my parents LOL! Austin's usually a bit of a drag but it's a GREAT city during South By.
Being a former Austinite and SXSW Film exhibitor, I can say that most of the hotels on that list are a good bet. Austin's downtown is laid out such that getting anywhere is pretty simple. That said, if you want to stay close to the center of the buzz during South By, stay at the Omni, the Driskill, or the Radisson Town Lake.

Interestingly enough, the Hotel San Jose isn't on that list, but it's easily the coolest hotel in town and just up the street from Guero's Taco Bar (which isn't all that great in terms of food but anyone you'd ever want to network with will be at Guero's at some point). It's also just a few blocks south of downtown and totally worth the walk.

The best part of getting around is that taxis in ATX charge mileage only; NOT time. It's pretty nice when you have to get somewhere all the way across town on a Saturday night and you're stuck in gridlock...when you get to your destination you only owe like 5 or 6 bucks.
Enjoy your trip!
Anything cool happening in Madison for Chinese New Year? Looking to get some authentic Chinese grub!
