Heath Port I saw a stat the other day that many of the unemployed are made up of younger generations and those around retirement age. Then I saw this HBR blog post on the entitlement of Millenials and unemployment and wanted to get the Brazen crowds thoughts: http://tinyurl.com/3rek99h. What do you think? Unfair characterization? Spot on? Or somewhere in between?

Ryan Paugh I felt the need for a impulse buy today so I bought a new snowboard for this winter. I've lived in Wisconsin for more than 3 years now, but I have never gone to any of the mountains. Which is your favorite? I hear that the best in close proximity to Madison is Devil's Head. I'd like to try out Tyrol Basin as well because it is closer to my side of town.

Ryan Healy What do you guys like and dislike most about networking events or networking groups? Personally, I like engaging in intelligent conversation with people who are in my field or in a field that interests me. What I don't like is initially introducing myself without an intro from a friend or acquaintance. What else is a positive? Negative?

Like, people who know each other hovering in groups not talking about anything related to the event--kind of like a bad junior high dance. Ryan Healy Great article from Tech Crunch on Wisconsin Start-Ups. The author specifically talks about Madison based start-ups. We're definitely an up and coming hub for entrepreneurship, but do you guys think Madison will ever be able to compete with some of the other up and comers like Boulder, Austin and Chicago when it comes to tech start ups specifically? http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/24/wisconsin-land-of-beer-cheese-and-start...

I'm spoiled as I've grown up on the beach in South FL and I've worked with numerous start ups aiding in hiring. People are far more likely to move to California, FL, and TX than anywhere else based on just the weather factor. Certainly, I can see young folks moving there for a few years, but...I definitely would not use the locale as a 'selling point'. Especially when the other big 'locales' for start ups (in my opinion) offer more in terms of not just weather, but culture and future connections. In NY, you have every museum, Broadway, free concerts with huge stars, etc. On the downside (personally), it's a bit busy for me...but FL and CA - perfect weather year round and on the beach...I believe that's enticing. What I DO think Madison, Boulder, and Austin do have a HUGE advantage is that they are "college towns", so there is a lot of entrepreneurial and ambitious talent.

Ryan Paugh Anybody check out Graze yet for lunch or dinner? I highly recommend it. The food was great and easy to share w/ a small group. Think Wisconsin Tapas. The best part is that it was really cheap! The only downfall in my opinion is that they needed a bigger tap list. Especially if they're going to market themselves as a gastropub.

Ryan...we buy an annual every year and it always pays itself off ten-fold.

One thing we LOVE to participate in is all of the candlelight hikes in the Fall and Winter. They do them out at Kohler, Lapham, Blue Mounds and Kegonsa to name just a few. They illuminate the trails with candles and torches and you go for a dark, snowy hike with your family...most of them offer bonfires and Cocoa/Cider/Coffee/Marshmallows at the end.

Sure, scaling rock out at Devil's in the middle of summertime is always epic, but the real hidden jewels offered up with your park pass start to shine when it cools off around here.

Best thing to do is go to the WDNR website and check the Calendar to see what's going on.

I think longer videos are okay if you give a larger summary of what's in the video so that I can skim it and know if I'm interested to watch the whole thing. I would never go above 20 minutes though (that's the max for TED videos) unless it's edited really well. Also, I think if your market is Madison, then people will be okay watching longer videos because they've heard of or know the person so the affinity will encourage them to watch the whole thing. It was still too long for me though :)

Anyway, I thought your questions were good. I liked how you dug deeper with certain areas and were curious about the path. I felt like I was eaves-dropping on a coffee shop conversation which was cool.
