Mehul Kar Can music say something without lyrics? Do some songs say one thing with their music and something else with their lyrics? I feel like I run across these types of songs ALL the time.... Or maybe, the music says something different to everyone, and when the song/piece was originally written, it wasn't innately hypocritical... Any songwriters want to comment?

Some would say that the music "gained a life of it's own." But the notes didn't change. I think the way we interpret them change over time and from person to person.

Becky: Maybe innately hypocritical should be reserved for extreme examples, such as the one described by Diggory. I find subtle hints of these kinds of songs quite a bit.

Diggory: Perfect answer. That's exactly what I was thinking. But I've heard songs of the opposite scenario as well. The lyrics are happy and beautiful, but the music is slow and dreary.

Becky Benishek: @Diggory, excellent answer, I agree.

Mehul Kar I want to add/organize a music element to my personal brand because music is a big part of my life and lifestyle. What services would you recommend to build this? A vanity url (service.com/username) is preferred. And connectivity to music on my harddrive via iTunes is preferred. So far last.fm fits all these. I'm wondering if you know of any other ones?

Mehul Kar: I went with last.fm. Especially since it will import my listening habits and build a profile from that, instead of me having to do any work.

Ethan Stanislawski When I was at the University of Chicago, I saw a formative concert for me at Logan Square Auditorium: Ponys, Black Lips, and Mannequin Men. Mannequin Men, opening in Chicago for years, were the best of the bunch, despite the name recognition of others. They've released a couple of truly exceptional albums that have gotten some national traction, but they're best known in Chi-town. I became friends with them through coverage; they're just as sincere in person as on stage: http://mysp.ac/h39drN

Rebecca Thorman This is old-school, but Stars by Hum was my high-school anthem and the band was local to Champaign-Urbana, IL. Let's see, I met Ant from Atmosphere once in Madison, WI so I will include Always Coming Back to You and Guarantees by Atmosphere as Midwest-rap favorites. I can't think of any more at the moment, but will be back... :)
