Ryan Pratt Is law school worth 100k?

a) 100k? More like 150k-200k unless you're going to a place that offers in-state tuition or you get substantial scholarships.
b) the answer is going to depend on many variables including your opportunity cost, and your expected retrun. If you're looking at a T15-20 school, your odds of landing a job worth the cost of law shool is much higher (assuming of course that's what you want to do). There is a lot of noise about this right now. I suggest you start somewhere like here to get a handle on making the beginning economic inquiries for your situation.

The cost should be around 100k for me personally being in the military. I am going to Belmont University in the Fall and want to hear from those who have been in my shoes. Thank you for that article, it was very informative. I am wondering what rank Belmont is going to be. Hopefully it competes with Vanderbilt once it's ABA accredited.

Did another clerkship after that which he is just finishing up. Then he's moving to DC to work for the DOJ. So yeah, he did.

That said, he told me that the legal profession was impacted by the recession way more than most people realize. So it's no surprise that a large number of law school graduates are struggling for work.

The biggest mistake I see job seekers making is not paying attention the quality and communication of their message. It's not enough to throw your experience, skills and summary on a resume - you have to clearly communicate to your target audience why you're qualified and what it is you can bring to the table. Good tips - thanks!

Dan Canedo What are the most effective ways/best resources to learn about/gain expertise in a new legal field (ex: entertainment law) when transitioning from another field (ex: insurance defense)? Researching Supreme Court cases, practice guides, internships, etc? How do you show knowledge of the new field on your resume if you have no prior internships/work experience in that field? Publishing a paper, writing a blog? Thanks everyone!

As Regina said informational interviews are a great way to gain information about the area of law that you are interested in. It will also give you the opportunity to get advice on how to rebrand your current resume(ex: insurance defense) to to your target industry (ex: entertainment law). You will need to learn the jargon of the field that you interested in and put it in your resume. You can also attend industry meetings to meet other lawyers in the field that you are interested in. You can also take on some pro bono clients or work with an organization such as www.probono.net. I hope that this helps.

TOP IDEA: Jessica Silverstein This is 1st in a series of posts about what NOT to do. As a lawyer I am a big fan of lists. As a resume writer I am a big fan of order and clarity. wendy aron Have you ever decided to hate a boss based on his or her movie preferences? One of my favorite Indie films of all times was "LIttle Miss Sunshine," and when my boss announced she hated it, I had a vendetta against her for the rest of my time at that particularly company. It did not serve me well. How about you?
