Vickie Elmer The Awesome Foundation has given micro-grants to dozens of awesome projects, starting in Boston and spreading across the world. Its 30th chapter, in Detroit, Mich., launches today and focuses on innovative and amazing news and journalism projects. (Read more on the launch at http://www.awesomene.ws/ ). I'm a trustee in Detroit and we're hopingto give out the first $1,000 by the end of March. We'd love to hear from some BrazenCareerists with "awesome" news and info ideas.

Vickie Elmer Journalists are supposed to gather the facts, so do we also believe in luck? What about career luck? Check out my new blog post based on LinkedIn's research on career luck - http://workingkind.com/2012/03/luck-in-career/ . Then let's hear stories about how good luck has shown up in our careers and work.

There's also preparation, learning, hard work, persistance and excellence in execution. They all play a part in a career.

Lamar Morgan Did you know you can do a real good job of SEO'ing yourself, your company and your business website via Examiner.com? Just comment on the articles - include your name, business and business website in the signature to your comment. Want to view some articles in need of comments? Many, like myself, have write small business columns. Some journalists prefer to focus upon specific areas of interest - like real estate or entertainment. I chose to help small businesses and people in career transition have more visibility through my three columns - San Francisco Examiner, Ft. Lauderdale Examiner and Small Business Examiner (the national publication).

Why should this be important to you? Because you can comment on as few or as many of my articles as you like. You can even subscribe to my columns. If you provide worthwhile commentary - not SPAM - you enhance your visibility online with ALL the major search engines. How is that possible? It's possible because Examiner.com is highly ranked by Google. You simply need to be sure to place your name, business and business web address in your signature. If you happen to be in career transition, you should eagerly want to comment on ALL the articles as with anything on the Net, nothing goes away. There is no such thing as obsolete news once it gets posted online. It will ALWAYS be there - be it as a blessing or a curse. But, that's your choice. So, make a positive move and uplift an article and yourself, simultaneously.

Lamar Morgan I would like to get some journalists interested in writing about the Workforce Investment Act. This is the act that is supposed to be putting America back-to-work. But, there seem to be some strange things going on here. All computers at OneStop Career Centers throughout the USA are purposefully crippled. Any journalists out there interest in writing about this strange situation, please let me know.

Melissa Breau I was thinking about the role of the internet and its influence on the types of content created; I think web writing inspires two particular types of content -- immediate content and evergreen content. People either tend to write something so news worthy and "right now" that by tomorrow it'd be obsolete (except as history) or they write something generic (how many posts are there on fav. wordpress plugins). Thoughts?

I don't agree with the other point though. I think validation or review from others actually compromises original thought.

There are obviously exceptions and half-assing can readily be the excuse for "original thought".

So having someone else look over and discuss your ideas can strengthen the way that you write them.

As am editor, I also think that grammar and sentence structure can play a big part in the ability to convey a message in a clear convincing way; so I believe that having articles checked for those things is a benefit.

Clearly, when there is so much red tape that you can't get an original idea to final edition, there's a problem. But I think small groups and editing can create much stronger work. It's a rare writer indeed whose work is flawless.

Vickie Elmer What surprises have you unearthed in your recent blog posts or articles? I found out female bill collectors earn more than men in the field. Ji Huyn,

That's an excellent article. Great job with the recommendations. You hit all the key info especially documentation. I've had to handle sexual discriminations many times in my career. The key to doing it without damage to your career is to do it with facts and no emotions.

One thing to keep in mind. Other women will not choose to stand up with you in some cases unless you go to class action lawsuit and not necessarily even then. I've had to actually fight for women in my department because they won't.

That will be different for each person and based on what you want out of the reputation. Business, contracts, or just bragging rights.

It's best to look at your specific industry and what you want to achieve from raising your "professional" reputation before you choose a venue.

For example, Twitter is absolutely useless to me except as a conversation piece occasionally but I play with it.
