Eric Another good one is www.japanesepod101.com. Some content is free, you can create an account for free, and there are various levels - beginner, intermediate, and advanced (you pay for beyond beginner level). I'm convinced that bombarding myself with Japanese every day will get me the familiarity I'm seeking with the language.

Also, did anyone see that MIT opencourseware had a Japanese linguistics course? I bought the book for it, but never got around to finishing it.

I bought some kanji cards from Tuttle; I liked their Chinese ones. Kanji are so difficult to remember, so sheer dumb persistence is all I have!

Eric I've been using Kanji cards. I ordered them from White Rabbit Press: http://www.whiterabbitpress.com/. The tough part is that the characters aren't just the simple ones; they show words using those Kanji, and those are often complicated ones. But I've found that working on them every day is definitely worthwhile.

I'm learning Japanese through books, but I also use livemocha.com. Maybe we can make a compendium of good learning sources?

Eric Just started reading Japanese - Verbs and Essential Grammar 2nd ed. by Rita L. Lampkin. Anyone read it? Anyone learning Japanese here?

Emiel van den Boomen: Thanks Michael. My friend Honor Dargan built it from scratch. Your couchsurfing site looks great!
