For those of the INTJ (Myers-Briggs) personality type. We are idea people, self-confident and logical, perfectionist "system builders," calm and rational, ultra selective but supremely loyal to those who meet our standards, the workhorses who get it done without fuss and drama. We are many of the world's scientists, engineers, programmers, teachers, professors, business and military leaders, lawyers and judges.
I'm an INTJ and am strongly introverted, and there have been times when I wasn't believed because I was nervous.
I just read the following article at http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/nurtureshock/archive/2009/12/28/the-truth...
The article states:"(In comparison, shy, truth-telling introverts often get anxious during a confrontation and thus mistakenly get accused of lying.)"
Has this happened to you?
A voucher for a brand name or company that they are 100% obviously into, based on past purchases - do not guess. Then leave them to spend it how and when they want. They will appreciate the thought, like the systematic approach to allowing themself to choose the precise gift - and it'll save you the hassle of thinking to hard. What are others' thoughts?
A copy of Neil Fiore's "The Now Habit". Mr. Fiore's assumption is that most procrastination is the effect of perfectionism that most of us (INTJs) are guilty of.
I agree with Chris, for sure!
Mind, gift certs can be a little impersonal sometimes. These things never go wrong with me: CD's, books, t-shirts, something fair trade, stationary, scarves :)
My greatest strength as an INTJ is my ability to stay even-keeled and in control no matter what is thrown at me. I don't have many extreme ups or extreme downs, and I'm usually prepared to handle any situation because of it.
That said, this can also be a weakness. Sometimes you need to be really excited and sometimes you need to be able to empathize with people completely - even if they are going through something that you don't totally understand.
What is your greatest strength as an INTJ?
In the last couple of years I have finally enabled myself to replace that elusive "understanding" or "compassion" with a set of reasonable expectations regarding emotions and reactions to events. Hey, it works for me, and I think only an INTJ would or could do what I have. :-)
My ability to learn fast.
And like you Ryan, I tend to not have coronaries in crises (but am secretly freaking out inside sometimes).
I'm not terribly emotional, but am very good at thinking up solutions to things :)
I just did the test in this group (a page or two back) and I scored 100 for introversion. Still an INTJ by the way -did the full Myers Briggs 10 years ago. At that time I was mortified by my introverted ways. Now, not so much. Now I really appreciate my rich inner life, and I make myself go out because it makes me feel better. I love coming home again just as much! So what's changed? I moved to a career (researcher, writer) that suits my personality. Any other introverts in a career misfit here?
Katherine Briggs and Isabella Briggs Myers based the MBTI on Carl Jung's personality type theory. According to Jung we are born with our best fit type and our life experiences help us figure out what that best fit type is. Ten years ago, the findings surprised you and now you have discovered the fit.
Sorry guys, I jumped into the wrong boat! While the INT really clicked, the P really completes my picture. Not sure how I missed that one. Now, on to change my mind and join the indecisive group :)
INTJs: give me some proposals for a group avatar. Image URLs will be helpful. Who is the most recognizable or photogenic INTJ?
Here's a good list http://www.typelogic.com/intj.html. Although I'm going to suggest passing on Hannibal Lecter!
Sir Isaac Newton. I like the jpg at http://www.biographyonline.net/scientists/images/newton.jpg since it shows him holding a prism and the resulting color spectrum. Need to give attribution to the source of the photo though.
For me, writing is a way to integrate the world into my internal system (and we're all about the systems).
Writing means I don't have to report to anyone and can get lost in details. I also write for fun, because it provides some clarity
Watching other people surf the web and not use quickest path possible... basically, anything that's not the shortest, most efficient way.
People wasting my time by forcing me into badly designed systems. On good weeks, I can fight to fix the system. On bad weeks, I kvetch :-D.
I wish you could edit your reply after posting it- I meant to say I'd rather people got to the point quickly
I'm personally big on time. Efficiency, respecting my time (people who show up late are dead to me) and I agree about the long stories too!
I concur to everything posted here already, and add people who don't follow through on something they've agreed to do
Poorly designed interfaces make me hysterical. Not only are they frustrating to use, but there's no excuse for bad interface design!
I have always liked this description of INTJs as having a "rational mastermind" temperament. (http://keirsey.com/handler.aspx?s=keirsey&f=fourtemps&tab=5&c=mastermind)
