Dana Leavy Hi everyone - colleagues of mine over at Tangerine-Watson diversity staffing are conducting the advertising industry's first-ever national survey of the attitudes and perceptions of professionals from various backgrounds and ethnicities. La Donna Lokey I'm working on a research project and need to identify companies that are similar to or competitors of Razorfish, in particular any companies that might have a presence in Texas, NY, or Florida. This would be companies that hire User Experience Devs/Designers, Web Devs, Project Mgrs, graphic artists, copy writers, HTML coders, etc. Can you name some of these companies, and also indicate which ones are the best or have the best reputation?

I found this quote especially interesting:

"The critical thing about the design process is to identify your scarcest resource. Despite what you may think, that very often is not money. For example, in a NASA moon shot, money is abundant but lightness is scarce; every ounce of weight requires tons of material below. On the design of a beach vacation home, the limitation may be your ocean-front footage. You have to make sure your whole team understands what scarce resource you’re optimizing."

Thoughts?

Ryan Paugh Hey you guys -- I've been working on a brand-new YouTube page to host Brazen Careerist's Rock Your Career video series and I need some feedback. How can I make our page look better? I've seen a lot of really cool YouTube channels out there and I want Brazen's to be cool, too. Anyone ever work on a YouTube page design before? Check ours out over here >> http://www.youtube.com/RockYourCareer

Build things that show off your skills, write articles about interaction design, network with other designers and with the type of people you'd like to work with, and never stop hustling. Even if you don't get hired right away, you'll have a sizable portfolio for your efforts, and that definitely can't hurt.

Photis Patriotis Do you guys have any tips, tricks, or tools you use to model new interactive designs before someone programs them? I do a lot of specing for our web development, and it's mostly photoshop/fireworks/visio, then putting it into a powerpoint with boxes and arrows describing the dynamic elements. Is this how everyone works?

Ben Overmyer: As it doesn't use written or spoken language at all, it's reliant on cross-cultural semiotics in order to function internationally.
