Jenn Pedde Was just talking about this with a coworker and I wanted to throw it out to you Brazen Careerists. Assuming you're not desperate - Would you be less likely to take a position that said career growth wasn't really something that happened at the company? Or that professional development wasn't something the company regularly offered?

@Ethan - That's a good point too. Didn't think about it in a sense of testing out an industry. I suppose I've done that my whole career until now too.

@Michael - I'm like that too. I've always said I prefer environment over anything else because if you are miserable for 40 hours a week, then who cares what opportunities arise later on down the road.

@Ted - hahaha those sound like Excellent jobs! (jk). Yea I'm with you on that. However if you work for a place that has no intention of promoting anyone (I once did) you can work as hard as you want, but it's not going to matter until you go somewhere else.

Just because they don't say "we promote people" doesn't mean ...MoreMy point is how can you know a company has no intention of (ever!) promoting you? Just because they don't say "we promote people" doesn't mean they don't, as much as the opposite. I think the only way to be sure is if the company says "yeah, it's a dead-end job and we never, ever help people move up here."

Yet if that's the case, I'd take the job anyway and work for the world's most honest company.
