Shelly Pleasant Hi All my name is Shelly Pleasant and I am new to the group. This seemed like the best place to get some information I need. I am currently finishing up Medical Coding classes to become a certified coder. Any thoughts and where I can start my job search? I would eventually like to work from home. Second, I am self employed right now offering a disocunt healthcare program for Care Express. $40 a month offer affordable coverage for an entire household! Any thoughts as to where I can market that?

Timothy Johnson III Do any of you know of a healthcare recruiter in the tri-state area? Specifically, a recruiter that specializes in placing recent Bachelors of Sciences in Nursing graduates? A good friend of mine will have her BSN by the end of August and will be starting her job search. In particular, she wants to find a job in Level 1 trauma center at a large, university-affiliated teaching hospital that has a gateway/training program for new BSN graduates. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Kristen Murphy Hey all! This is my first day on BC and I have to admit, I'm a bit overwhelmed! Im a year out of college (BA in psych) and Im looking to go to nursing school in the fall, but can't seem to find a transitional job in the healthcare field. I've applied to hundreds of jobs, but since I dont necessarily have the medical experience yet, no one seems to be giving me a chance. any advice?

I've even heard of some hospitals doing this. That is below your education level, but perhaps an option to get your foot in the door. Maybe consider volunteering at a fire department as an emt, many pay for the training and then you have the certification and skills to help in your quest for nursing school. All the best to you!

Melanie Hi! My name is Melanie. I have a bachelors in psychology and am working on my pre-med requirements, should be done in the spring. Having some form of experience is highly recommended for admission into most schools. The sad thing is I haven't found one person willing to help me find anything. They make it so difficult.

I am in a similar boat, you're right, it is tough also to find volunteer opportunities in hospitals now because so many people want to volunteer. Also (though this might be less desirable) maybe try a hospital/nursing home that offers free CNA/GNA training in exchange for working there. I know some may see that as foolish since you already have a bachelors (& understandably so) but just a thought. Also, if your doctor or a loved one's doctor could suggest a healthcare provider at a clinic, maybe they would allow you to shadow them. Best wishes to you!

Becky Benishek We all know someone with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, or who has behavioral problems, special needs or is bullied in school. We also know caregivers, nurses, social workers, security officers, people who place those with special needs in jobs. My new company has two FB Pages that revolve around these topics, and I hope you consider supporting them. It would mean a TON. Thank you! Barbara I am an IT security professional with a background in nursing and clinical research who seeks to transition into Healthcare IT. Currently, I am studying for certification by HIMSS for the CPHIMS. The regions of the US that interest me are New Jersey/New York/Connecticut and the Washington,DC metro area including VA and MD. I'd appreciate any suggestions about making the transition.

Kevin Recently I graduated from my RN program and have worked in northern rural Canada providing acute care to marginalized populations with language barriers and substandard determinants of health for the past 2 years. I have been trained in ER, OR, and med/surg nursing. I have wanted to make the transition into education & health promotion. Has anyone made this transition? Any advice, or aware of possible career opportunities for an ambitious RN who embraces a healthy lifestyle?

Daniel Higbee Hi, I have recently qualified as a doctor in England, but am also a US passport holder. I was considering taking my medical entrance exams for the US and was wondering if anyone had any experience of this process; from taking the exams, to getting a job in US having trained elsewhere, the similarity of the exams to MRCP, and also reintegration into the English system after a few years out in the US. All advice appreciated

Rebecca Thorman Would you diet for dollars? (http://ow.ly/1SOg8) Many employers are betting they can find your price. At least a third of U.S. companies offer financial incentives, or are planning to introduce them, to get their employees to lose weight or get healthier in other ways. How much money would it take to get you to get healthy/lose some serious weight? $100? $500? (If my company reimbursed personal trainers, I'd be all in)
