Timothy Johnson III I'm considering signing up for the Brazen U Social Media Boot Camp course and I wanted to know which fellow Brazens took the course. What was the real-world impact for you, post-Bootcamp? How did it the course improve your social media efforts and know-how for your current job or side-gig? I'd love to get some feedback from Brazen community and I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences. Thanks a lot!

I actually signed up for the Brazen Boot Camp within the last two weeks and I'm working through all the material. So far, so good! I wonder how helpful these social media "courses" really are. Has anyone here tried any of these? If they're any good, how are they closing the gap between social media theory and praxis ?

Ryan Paugh Hey guys, a former colleague of mine is hiring a Content Marketing Director at InfusionSoft in Arizona. This company is growing fast. I work with them directly through the YEC and have heard positive things about the company culture. Here's the listing: http://bit.ly/zYTJtL If we know each other personally please send me an email. I can make direct referrals for anyone I know well enough.

Melinda McKee I couldn't agree more with everything in this article, "How to get the most out of a PR major," from Ragan: http://www.prdaily.com/Main/Articles/9901.aspx If I had to pick one best tip, though, it would be to practice your writing! I immediately lose confidence in professionals when their writing is abysmal (and communications pros are naturally held to an even higher standard, ).

We once had a really interesting conversation in one of my philosophy theory classes about choosing to do something in which you excel but is not particularly interesting or challenging verses something that is more challenging but you enjoy more. I'm very much of the type to do what is interesting to me, which is not always congruent with the areas in which I excel. I'd argue it makes me a more dynamic person, and one who is capable of mediating across subject and industry boundaries, though I am sure it could also be argued that this approach reduces the likelihood of achieving mastery in any one specific area.

Dana Leavy What have you done to rebrand yourself for a new career when you lack experience on your resume? In my experience, one of the best tactics is increasing your visibility by positioning yourself as a subject matter guru in your desired field. Thought leaderships (blogging, discussions, idea and content sharing) is at the top of my list. Some other ideas around the importance (and how to) of rebranding yourself: http://tinyurl.com/3pfxrkb

But if you participate in the dialogue, as Dana is suggesting, in many industries you will make good connections that will lead to employment. That is how I did it (just got my post-graduation job yesterday. Super stoked!).

However, I would also say that in many places volunteering can lead to excellent experience. I was the PR manager for a 14,000 person convention, dealing directly with many TV and movie stars and their agents. I was unpaid. It was technically volunteer. If you keep your eyes out for opportunities like this, or blatantly create them, you'll be ahead of the other job seekers.

Dana Leavy There's much information out there on how to conduct your job search, it's hard to know where to start, who to follow and what to trust. The 'experts' can give you a great 'jumping off point', but how you integrate the information is what makes a difference.
