Ryan Paugh Great question asked on our YEC members-only forum today and I wanted to ask you guys for your thoughts as well: How do you define social entrepreneurship? Can a for-profit venture be social entrepreneurship or does it have to be a nonprofit?

By that definition, a social enterprise should indeed be a for-profit venture, because the brilliance of social enterprises are their ability to turn a profit while creating social good. I think that a nonprofit social enterprise is a contradiction.

Ryan Paugh One of the biggest issues that entrepreneurs of all ages have trouble with is dealing with problem clients who don't pay on time, don't respect scope of work, etc. My friend and fellow YEC member, Ashley Bodi, started an amazing business to help entrepreneurs deal with these issues. Tomorrow at 8:30pm est (5:30pm pst) we're producing a live video Q&A with her. Stop by and ask her your questions. Rsvp here: http://live.theyec.org/ashleybodi How do you deal with these issues in your own business?

Brett Kunsch I'm rebranding and revamping my website/blog this month. I've heard Genesis and Thesis are great, and want something that a non-developer (i.e. ME) can use. I want to be able to basically do anything my crazy mind thinks up with with an easy to use design dash that integrates with Wordpress. Any recommendations? BIG thanks all :)

Dana Leavy The road to building a sustainable and profitable business can be challenging and complicated. And while this stops many aspiring entrepreneurs & freelancers in their overwhelmed tracks, the reality is that it's easier to actually get the business physically started, with fairly little risk and investment, and begin building traction from there. A couple tips for small biz newbies & skeptics. http://aspyresolutions.com/2012/01/5-smallbiz-essentials/

Ryan Paugh 2011 was the year of the protestor. 2012 will be the year of the entrepreneur. At least that's what we're pushing for at YEC this year. We just published an article on TIME that outlines our stance. Aaron Batchelder I'm looking for some advice regarding VC/Angel funding. I'm going to be launching a new social network in February have been bootstrapping so far. I plan on beta testing to a market of roughly 7,500 individuals, and launching it to an additional market of 30,000 over the course of 2-3 months. My plan is to use the 30,000 individuals to gather data on market traction, etc., to increase my chances of funding. Advice/comments on seeking capital, soft launching, business plans etc would be great!

I'll be happy to schedule a conversation with you to answer what questions you may have. First and foremost, make sure that you have gone through the process of creating a business plan; while some may claim this is "not necessary," the truth is that the process of writing one does force you to think about critical issues (if you approach this correctly) and funding sources for the most part still expect to see a business plan and pro-forma financials as part of the due diligence process, even if they don't necessarily read them in their entirety.
