Susan Lewis Interested in serving on a board? It's a good way to hone leadership skills and make connections. I sing with The Women's Chorus of Dallas and we're making some changes to our board right now. We're looking for some bright new faces to fill those spots (and bring some bright new ideas). No previous board experience necessary, although it would be fabulous. Happy to provide more details or hook you up with the committee making selections.

Sara Gallagher Hello Dallasites! I have a good friend and former colleague who is relocating to Dallas, TX. She was phenomenal to work with, and I want to see a wonderful company snatch her up soon! Her most recent job was as the Campus Director (chief executive) of a brand new college campus. Prior to becoming campus director, she worked as a project manager and (prior to that) as an accreditation and compliance specialist. If you know of any openings (she's willing to switch industries) let me know! Thanks!

If you have never been to a book signing- Go to this one. This every-state-in-the-nation book tour he is doing is brilliant. And you don't have to have read his book. My B/Nbookstore doesn't even carry it! But go to his website and read his manifesto (its free). It is a fantastic once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Chris! And really get to talk to a person who wants to talk to his readers. That in itself is so very very rare. He's not a product there to just sign books and then leave. His story is inspiring yes, but even more infectious is being around other inspiring, think-outside-the-box, lets-make-the-world-a-better-place-in-our-own-way together kinds of optimists. That networking opportunity (it may be 10 brave souls or it could be 35+ -- but you should not pass up this opportunity to meet Chris! I give him kudos -- not only did he live and work in Africa for years, but on this book tour he came all the way out to Minneapolis, Fargo ND and Sioux Falls SD. No one ever goes to ND or SD for a book tour! And your book signing has cupcakes? Okay! Go! That never happens at book signings. Have I convinced you yet? Just go! And bring a friend! (note: my enthusiasm is not a paid advertisement! Discovering Chris' writings has transformed my year in so many positive encouraging ways. I had to work the day he was in Mlps (my area) but I still think he's a person writing and doing things worth tuning in to. Go to the book signing and then report back to us on what you thought about it all.

Elysa Rice I'm speaking for a local meetup group tonight on Keeping Your Customers Happy Using Social Media. I read an interesting article this weekend (Opinion: Customers want relationships, not low prices http://ln-s.net/7oBE) as a customer how have you seen businesses use social media to keep you loyal? And as a marketer/community manager what have you found works in social media engagement for your customer base?

My favorite personalized experience is always places that remember me. There are two local businesses I frequent - one is a laundromat where the owners, an older Spanish couple who don't speak much English, work the counter themselves. They always say hi and the gentleman tends to fall asleep watching tv in the corner. I feel good about supporting a small local business and find him endearing.

The other place I frequent is a corner store where I occasionally buy breakfast. They've memorized my order. I walk in, say Hi and can order the usual... it makes me go back again and again rather than trying the place across the street that offers the same options.

It's not necessarily the online social media that makes customers feel important. I also have a place I go to frequently because they know my name and my order. I live in an area where restaurants are a dime a dozen. I think there are 4 thai places with 5 miles of my apartment but I feel guilty if I don't go to the one where they know my name. I do think though that social media can allow brands to carry some of this feeling online. I recently had a large brand tweet me in response to a 4square checkin at their location. All they said was "hope you and your mom enjoyed lunch today. what did you get?" -- very simple but it worked (for me). I'll be back.

It took me only 15 minutes to engineer a Man-in-the-Middle attack, intercepting all the packets someone was exchanging over a public Wi-Fi hotspot, as a demo to a business owner who previously didn't see anything wrong with sending confidential or proprietary information over a public Wi-Fi network.
