Jenn Pedde Did you all know that November is "National Novel Writing Month?" Or on twitter known as #NaNoWriMo? Basically you're supposed to set goals and write a full novel in the month of November through self discipline and the help of others doing it too. My company, Eat Your Serial, would love to be a place for anyone who is trying to accomplish this goal to publish their work - for free. We even set you up with an editor. Check out the blog for more about us: http://eatyourserial.wordpress.com

Ty Unglebower Last night at around 3:00AM I at last finished the rough draft of my novel! It's a relief and exciting at the same time. I got the general idea about 18 months ago, inspired by several things. And I went through a dry spell of writing nothing in it for two months or so. Now I will put it away fro about three months, and this begin first revisions which I hope to have completed by October.

I was giving my opinion as an individual user more than a web developer looking for issues that any user may have. I always try to keep in mind in any design work that there will always be a user somewhere who does not agree with my design choices, whether they be due to usability or personal preference. As someone who uses contacts and glasses myself, I felt the contrast on this site was enough that most users would not have a problem. However, I agree more contrast is always a better idea than lower contrast.

Ty Unglebower I moderate comments on both of my blogs. I also allow anonymous comments. To the current crop of bloggers these actions are usually considered heresy. I maintain the right in my policy to keep or delete them though. I merely ask that someone post a name and an email link. Other than that anonymous commenter are usually trolls so losing an anonymos comenter is no big deal. I don't moderate comments because it's too "Red State' for me. I can always delete a comment or black list or block a commenter if I need to.

That is not to say that in the past there has not been a time or two when I moderated comments on a specific post.

Harriet May I am trying an experiment with my blog, www.harrietmay.com. As of today I am writing it as if it were a novel. It may not work, it may be a disaster, but in some ways I think it feels more natural to me, and that this is not only an experiment but also a natural evolution. Have you changed your blog recently? Are you finding that it is growing naturally, or have you always had a clear idea of what it should look like and focus on?

It started out as more of a diary and now it's full of humor, advice and quips about life. Now I am pretty clear on what content I want to include on there. There's a weird thing that happens with a lot of "careerists," I think, where they encounter this "rule" that says THERE MUST BE A BLOG. Then you wind up with myriads of people bending over backward in excruciating ways to try to find something to say as close to every day as possible because... THERE MUST BE A BLOG. There's a lot to be said for waiting until you are sure you have something to say before saying it. It's like Rainer Maria Rilke's advice in "Letters to a Young Poet"- if you wake in the middle of the night and think, "I must write," then write. Otherwise, don't.

I took a crack at a standard blog format, but just lately had to adapt it to my left-of-center approach. http://furtherelement.com

Ty Unglebower You know about the so called "butterfly effect", don't you? A butterfly flaps its wings someplace and it begins a long chain reaction of events that eventually leads to a tornado on the other side of the world? The point being that the smallest things can lead to an alteration in the nature of a course. It happens, or can happens, to the mission and nature of our blogs and other writings. I explore how here. http://bit.ly/gr1VZU

Ty Unglebower There is a difference between writer's sex and writer's love. I say that because I feel the relationship we have to what we write is not unlike romance between too people. It can either start well and end badly if we become too attached, or that initial spark of interest can lead to great things when properly nourished. I expound upon this subject in my latest post. http://bit.ly/eD8URK

Ty Unglebower There are so many supposed rules to writing. So many in fact that there is an old adage: You can't be a good writer until you have written at least one million words. I don't know if the number is true or not, but persistence and practice required to GET to a million words is helpful. But it is not enough. A writer must write a million of his OWN words for it to matter. My blog about this: http://bit.ly/g481Z9
