Community Karma

Community Karma chats are happening every weekday, Monday-Friday at 12PM Eastern (9AM Pacific). The mission of this movement is to make time every day to help other Brazen members. Join us if you're in need of some good karma or if you're in need of some help.

More info here: http://bit.ly/fYzwgq

This group was created to help members help each other beyond our daily chats. Post about what you need help with. Or post about ways that you're willing to help others.

Network Leader: Ryan Paugh

Brett Kunsch I took a "leave of absence" from Brazen for awhile, and I've had a huge itch to hop on here and see what's been going down because I miss you good people. And you know what's so great about social networks? They keep on chugging, percolating ideas & discussions, and connecting people. You can pop right in, join the action, and feel right at home even if you've been gone for a little while. I'm deeply appreciative of the many "homes" I can return to in this beautiful global community.

Ty Unglebower I still only get connected with about 3 people in an hour. Is that a norm, or is that indicative of something wrong with my computer or something?

After a half hour of being connected just long enough to say "hello" I gave up and logged out. The other times I've joined the Network Roulette events I haven't had any problems. Sounds like their system goes a little nuts every once and a while.

Sam Rye What tools does your organisation use to generate genuine innovation and collaboration? Do you use facilitation techniques/consultants in your business? I'm really interested in a few theories and methods, so keen to hear others people have worked with.

I'm becoming really interested in facilitating those kinds of 'off-campus' events where people's ideas are challenged, their interests & passions are re-awakened, and they can reconnect with people around them. We're thinking of launching this kind of service for people we like around NZ (mainly social enterprises, NGO's, and progressive businesses).

Do you know of any crafts / ideas I can research around your comments?

Ryan Paugh If we varied up the times a little bit for community karma, would you be more inclined to come? I know that some of the west coasters are finding it difficult to attend because it's 9 a.m. for them. What is a better time for you guys?

Ryan Paugh I'm finding out through our Karma chats that a big problem people have with networking is follow-up emails. One of my tips is to be more straightforward. What do you need? What do you have to offer people? I think that most people are willing to help if you're clear about these two things. What's your advice for following up?

74 weeks ago from Email Etiquette and Community Karma

Kevin Li: @Scott: yes, typically I find myself following up with 60-70% of people for a specific reason.

In other networking situations, my ask is usually tailored to the person as is what I'm offering. It's more difficult with three minutes and not knowing who you connect with. I think chat roulette is a valuable tool and would like to learn to use it more effectively.

Sometimes, people enter a networking situation with a particular end result in mind - and that's fine, but often the unexpected outcomes can also be fruitful. You might enter a Network Roulette chat for a particular reason (finding new clients, for example) and speak to someone who can help you in an entirely different way (for instance, as a potential business partner, coach, mentor, etc..)

Ryan Paugh Do you do any good deeds over The Holidays that you normally wouldn't do? I've done things ranging from Toys for Tots to making Thanksgiving dinner for the Coast Guard. I'm realizing that I haven't made much time this holiday season to do something nice for people that I don't know. I'm feeling kind of selfish ... Maybe you guys can help me think of some ideas.

Ryan Healy Sorry I missed the chat today, too many meetings! Paugh and I are trying to decide if we should continue hosting events over the holiday's or take a break. What do you guys think? Will you be around to meet up over the holidays?

Ryan Paugh Eventually we'll set up more Community Chats at different times during the day so people all over the world can participate at a time that works best for them. We're not there yet, but I'm wondering what times of the day work best for you all so I can start planning better.
