dgrosu Help settle an argument ! In a recent conversation with a good friend of mine he emphasized that I am a pretty rare case of person that would first use the Internet to diagnose and find a fix for a problem with my car/bike before I go and seek out other avenues (friends, shop, dealer etc). I naturally disagreed. Since we both agree that numbers don't lie we would like to get your help in settling this argument. We put up a short 5 min survey at http://www.pingreply.net/argument.html Thanks Dan

Erik Sua Alright guys, autocross and track day season is upon us! For anyone in the midwest, there is a track day at Road America next weekend - http://roadamerica.fbody.us/ All makes are welcome - I'll be going in a Miata for example :)

Mark D Hiatt Are you getting inquiries about Toyota's problems in the last weeks? I'm the office Car Guy, so I've run into a lot. I have pointed out there isn't a car made today, from the humblest Korean import to the mightiest F1 racer, that won't slow down and stop if you stand on the brakes. But I'm not sure I am convincing many. The whole thing *has* caused me to start watching Toyota stock more closely. I think about two weeks after the last late night joke might be an opportunity to get some cheap.

The brakes on a car, any car, were designed to be more powerful than the engine and are more than capable of bringing the vehicle to a stop. You can't ignore physics.

I think that there might have been a malfunction in one or two instances, but these were compounded by the operator panicking and doing the wrong thing. Most would have been operator error. Remember the Audi debacle back in the eighties? NHTSA exonerated the company completely.

Erik Sua In case some of you guys were doubters regarding use of snow tires: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/06q4/a_tire_for_all_seasons_-tech_s... For those of you in winter states, how are you holding up?

It's way too light for winter months. I will sit on a patch of ice and spin out like I'm stuck in a snow bank just because my car isn't heavy enough to get grip. It's rediculous.

For the winter I fit a set of Bridgestone Blizzack snow tyres moubnted on steel rims and have never had any issues with the car. Rear wheel drive with no traction control in Wisconsin winters? No problem as long as you are prepared ahead of time. The Blizzacks are invaluable!

Richard Root Good tips. Unfortunately I have to store the fun car for the winter. Urge to find a nice STI rising. The 4-wheel drive would be nice for the upcoming winter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy73wPYkPr4

Holly Dunckel Excellent advise. Also, be sure that you change your oil from if your car will be experiencing colder temperatures.

Erik Sua For those of you in areas with snow, its past time for winter prep for your cars! Time to put a good coat of wax on, check your coolant, replace your wipers, and consider picking up some snow tires!

Tarik Scott: Yes it is. Unless you live in Mid-Michigan, which hasn't gotten any snow yet.

Erik Sua Just to start a little conversation - what drives you car wise? Driving? Style? Freedom? Personally I just love to DRIVE!
