Vanessa Gallo In the spirit of Canada Day, I recently attended an event with 5 well known, inspiring Canadians who shared their journey with some uncommon, useful kernels of wisdom. Hear from: Rick Campanelli (ET Canada), Nick Di Donato (owner, Liberty Group), Ivana Santilli (Juno winning singer/songwriter), Enrico Colantoni (Actor: Flashpoint, Veronica Mars, Just Shoot me) and Anthony Lacavera (CEO & Chairman of Global Live, Chair of Wind Mobile). http://bit.ly/ighALP

I find anyone associated with TV and the misleading industries associated with CRTC control are not really celebrities. See your out of work, come to Alberta. Things are rocking here.

Mark Dykeman There's a new group writing project on my blog that you must check out. It's called Global Manifesto Writing Month (GloManWriMo). It's a kind of non-fiction version of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). It starts on Monday, Nov. 1, just like NaNoWriMo. Can you write 333 words/day for 30 days? Then you can write the first draft of your own Manifesto, your plan for yourself... or the world! http://thoughtwrestling.com/blog/global-manifesto-writing-month/

Cam Here is the question, is the Canadian job market picking up? And if so are the unemployment numbers dropping? I just managed to find an awesome medical team for my condition and i really do not want to have to ditch all them to move somewhere that sucks medically again because I can't find work. Stupid professional branding, really limits work.

Cary Thomson Hi All This will probably seem like it has a incredibly obvious answer but is it essential or even advantageous to speak French to work in Toronto? Right now there's a chance we could move there if the other half gets into school at U of T and being from Scotland I have no experience of Toronto culture. Thanks

The other half is looking into distance ed courses right now - weirdly an online masters from Australian could be an option.

"since I have this at my disposal, why wouldn't I use it."

Well, here's why: I'm sure you've had a friend (everyone has) who only calls when they need a place to crash, or when they need help moving, or when they want to borrow your power tools. Usually they're not very good friends. Usually you stop taking their calls. My point is that people who ask and ask and ask without ever giving anything in return generally aren't that highly regarded.

I'm sure that's not who you are in your day to day life. I'm sure that's not who you are on those platforms and networks you use more often. But in this case, on this network, that is who you're being. If the only time you say anything is when you're asking for something, it's kind of a faux pas, and it doesn't reflect well on you. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, and I wish you the best of luck, but the way you approached this can rub people the wrong way. Self-promotion is great, but it's best kept to those platforms you're personally involved in on a regular basis.

I'm someone who is very excited about entering a contest.

You seem like someone who will attack anyone just to get into an argument. But...maybe that's not who your are in your day to day life.

Sadya Siddiqui Nat B (Natalee from Canada living in China) : this message is for you. THANK U! im truly touched by your email. u've said it so well - "...its about time...people thinking about their work situations more in terms of relationships than bottom-line contributions". u've probably read my reply by now: it makes no difference whether u r in China , Pakistan or the US- lousy managers have a universal zip code. the important thing is that we shud be ready to accept that maybe we r one of them.
