Jenn Pedde Did you all know that November is "National Novel Writing Month?" Or on twitter known as #NaNoWriMo? Basically you're supposed to set goals and write a full novel in the month of November through self discipline and the help of others doing it too. My company, Eat Your Serial, would love to be a place for anyone who is trying to accomplish this goal to publish their work - for free. We even set you up with an editor. Check out the blog for more about us: http://eatyourserial.wordpress.com

La Donna Lokey I just quoted a favorite passage of Atlas Shrugged, a book that helped to clarify and shape my work/life philosophy as a young adult. What books have influenced your work & life principles, or helped you to clarify your thoughts on your approach to life? (add Harold and the Purple Crayon to my list, also!)

La Donna Lokey "...that the man who has no purpose is a machine that coasts downhill at the mercy of any boulder to crash in the first chance ditch...that your work is the purpose of your life, and you must speed past any killer who assumes the right to stop you, that any value you might find outside your work, any other loyalty or love, can only be travelers you choose to share your journey and must be travelers going on their own power in the same direction." Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

La Donna Lokey "...and to settle down into a job that requires less than your mind's full capacity is to cut your motor and sentence yourself to another kind of motion: decay--that your work is the process of achieving your values, and to lose your ambition for values is to lose your ambition to live--that your body is a machine and your mind is its driver, and you must drive as far as your mind will take you, with achievement as the goal of your road..." Tyler Durbin I enjoy reading but find it difficult holding myself accountable to read & absorb what I’m reading..thus I created http://GenYBookClub.com. GenYBookClub is an online community & monthly twitter chat dedicated to bringing the best Gen Y books and minds together. We vote on a book, take a month to read it & then have a twitter chat (#GenYBookClub) the 1st Tuesday of each month (8 pm ET). The idea is simple: One book. One month. One chat. Is this something you’d want to be involved in?

We've had a few folks recommend that we do something like this here on Brazen, and use Network Roulette as a way to create 1-1 conversations around the book. Our focus would be on entrepreneurship and early career/professional books.

We'll talk more tomorrow about this--don't let me forget to bring it up!

Steven Pofcher Hello!! Anybody home!! Well anyway, I have a recommendation for the book club. I am now reading The New Rules of Marketing & PR, by David Meerman Scott. This is a good book that talks about social media marketing. Social media is here to stay and all businesses need to understand these tools. Marketing has gone from being a single directional messaging vehicle to being uni-directional. An informative book that is easy to read.

Aurian Campbell I know this group may have gone quiet for right now, but I just wanted to say a quick thank you for the original book recommendations that went into making my 2011 book order (http://bit.ly/fojqzi). I'm excited to get reading them!

Jenn Pedde Hey all... if any of you have read #UnMarketing, please join in a one hour chat Wednesday at 8pm EST to discuss some of the finer (or not so finer) points of the book. Follow the tag #CuseTS (Which stands for Syracuse Twiterary Society - a local book club that opens its meetings up to online chats). Hope to see you there - this was a great book to read!

Meghan Skiff Hey guys..let's get this book club going again! There are so many great things out there right now. Post your suggestions on what we should tackle next by Friday and we'll come up with a selection and move forward! Anyone interested?

Lauren Bracey: Meghan, thanks for jumping on and making the decision on this book! Can we set a date for discussion? I've just checked it out from the library.

Kathryn Jackson Hello everybody! I appreciate that you may have already chosen your books to read, but as a first time author I'm genuinely interested in any feedback about my book How to Keep Your Cool if You Lose Your Job (Longacre Press, now Random House). If anybody has read it, please let me know what you think! I'd like to reprint and am looking for ideas....! I'm looking forward to joining your book discussions! Have a great weekend, Kathryn Jackson

Rebecca Thorman My friend Nisha just posted on a study that found that children who grew up in a house with 500+ books stay in school three years longer than kids who grew up in homes with fewer books. (http://ow.ly/1SFEL) Like Nisha, this was certainly true in my case. I was a book worm (I even won an award for reading the most books in kindergarten and was totally down with the Pizza Hut Book It! program) :) and still love to read to this day. What about you?

So, I love the nook, especially the immediate gratification when I order something. That's pretty sweet.

I am a huge marker/note taker, and it's something I don't like about the nook. I'm sure ChaChanna is right that you can highlight and whatever, but I'm so not interested in learning. I've just been carrying a notepad along to jot down notes.

I thought it was a good read. Only thing was the nagging feeling that maybe I should quit reading and start executing instead.

What I would LOVE is the ability to export my highlighted sections into a Word document that I could then quote in my blog posts and such. That would be the most useful for me.

And Marie, I totally know what you mean... I def skimmed the end of that book so I could just start doing vs reading :)
