Jenn Pedde Did you all know that November is "National Novel Writing Month?" Or on twitter known as #NaNoWriMo? Basically you're supposed to set goals and write a full novel in the month of November through self discipline and the help of others doing it too. My company, Eat Your Serial, would love to be a place for anyone who is trying to accomplish this goal to publish their work - for free. We even set you up with an editor. La Donna Lokey I just quoted a favorite passage of Atlas Shrugged, a book that helped to clarify and shape my work/life philosophy as a young adult. What books have influenced your work & life principles, or helped you to clarify your thoughts on your approach to life? (add Harold and the Purple Crayon to my list, also!)

La Donna Lokey "...that the man who has no purpose is a machine that coasts downhill at the mercy of any boulder to crash in the first chance ditch...that your work is the purpose of your life, and you must speed past any killer who assumes the right to stop you, that any value you might find outside your work, any other loyalty or love, can only be travelers you choose to share your journey and must be travelers going on their own power in the same direction." La Donna Lokey "...and to settle down into a job that requires less than your mind's full capacity is to cut your motor and sentence yourself to another kind of motion: decay--that your work is the process of achieving your values, and to lose your ambition for values is to lose your ambition to live--that your body is a machine and your mind is its driver, and you must drive as far as your mind will take you, with achievement as the goal of your road..." Kate Davids I read The Design of Everyday Things recently and it occurred to me that that book is old. He barely mentions computers, if at all, and his examples are antiquated. And you know what? It's still highly applicable and worth a thorough read. I wrote a blog post on it, but wanted to hear what you all think about how the changes in technology have affected what "good design" means. I am about to finish the book the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Having read lots of books published during the latest decade, I found books like the 7 Habits are real classics. It inspires me to search for the timeless principles and write my own scripts of integrity, victory and interdependence. I also learned to "be efficient with things, but effective with people." Now I place relationships higher than business, and strive for win-win in almost all situations. Have you read this book?

I just finished those 2 and am also reading Druecker's "Essential Essays" - which is equally brilliant. His chapter 9, on management and dealing with people (and the utmost importance he places on putting people in the right roles within an organization) is something I will always strive for as I work through various business positions.

TOP IDEA: Mike Ambassador Bruny Part of my leadership program involves reading books. The last book we read was "Tribes" by Seth Godin. I really like what this guy has to say and have been inspired to lead a Seth Godin Book Club starting Jan. 2011. We will read and discuss one of his books a month for the duration of the year. I wanted to send the first invitation to my Brazen Family to both join and help shape what it will look like. You in?

Niki Nachappa I am reading "The Time Paradigm" by Phil Zimbardo and John Boyd. The books explains our often unrecognizable bias to either the past, present or the future. Its very enlightening read while also extremely helpful in understanding ourselves better. Any other fans of the book out there?

Kate Davids I'm toying around with writing a paper on Kindle vs. Nook vs. iPad. Which do you think you'd get (if you haven't already) and why? I'm a total Nook-lover, for instance. Got it because it is pretty, cheaper, and actually attached to a store (go in and buy vs. mail away). You?

I was backpacking Asia at the time and had some issues with Thai sand getting in the device. They overnighted a new one to me when I ended up in Mumbai India for free. In Rajasthan India a camel decided that stepping on my kindle was a good idea, and once again, Amazon overnighted a new one to me (this time it was my fault though so it wasn't for free.)

I have a Kindle and my father has an iPad. I like browsing the internet, but not much else with my iPad. Reading is just amazing on the Kindle and battery life lasts forever.
