Architecture

Architecture is the art and science of designing and constructing buildings and other physical structures for human shelter or use. This is a group serving the individuals who are professionals in the architecture field.

If you are new to this group please post your job title, what kind of professional services the firm you work for provides, and what is your favorite architectural building.

But Healthcare is definitely here to stay and offers tons of job stability. Anyone else find themselves changing fields lately, due to economy or otherwise?

Morana Medved I am a LEED AP (did it before the switch) and have numerous friends who are APs. I recently helped organize LEED CEU workshops through IIDA to explain the process, and it is actually fairly simple (similar to AIA, not as much like IDP) but now you have to work on a LEED project to keep your accreditation which many people feel is a good move since it's really about applying principles, not having letters behind your name.

Amanda Christianson I am involved in a little bit of a discussion in the 'Career Changers' group on the benefits/implications/etc. of being a LEED AP. It ' interesting hearing non-architects' takes on the accreditation. How many LEED AP's are there in here? What are your thoughts?

In my experience, at least here in California, it is a good place to meet other professionals in the green industries, not just architects, and explore your options.

I'm in the Rocky Mountains, which has the resources of an isolated small town, but great skiing and oddly cosmopolitan environment. Weird fit, and difficult for me!

Amanda Christianson Hi! New to group. Recently laid off. My old firm specialized in modern custom residential, and was recently breaking into civic work (schools, fire stations) in the past few years. They have recently pared down their staff by 60%, leaving 3 people in the office. Leaving for me, is a blessing in disguise! I am looking forward to using my arch experience in new ways...

Matthew Spaulding As for a favorite building, that's too dificult. Basically any structure that consciously alters one's view of the built environment.
