But biggest mistake? Would have to be getting into the habit of skipping classes. Often, it was for something as trivial as because it was raining.

According to my parents, not going for a PhD in Physics. According to my friends, not taking the draft deferrment and going when I graduated from high school and getting drafted. Me? I don't think I really made any. I went when I was ready and able to pay for it. I knew what I wanted to major in and pursuded it rather single-mindedly. And I graduated in less than 4 years, with the knowledge that I still use today.

I rarely if ever missed classes but only for a very good reason like illness. Maybe I could have gone on to do a PhD like JRandom42 was thinking (not in Physics though) but maybe I will go back and do something different next time, like Psychology. Michael.

Okay, Chris has me beat. That was my 2nd roommate's first roommate!
Aside from skipping classes, the major mistakes I made included not going after more outside opportunities and sticking with the wrong program too long after starting to have doubts.

@Chris--Ha! :)

@Edward--I agree. I interned, but I wish I would have done more with all the great campus organizations and volunteer groups. They made it easy to get involved, and I wish I had taken advantage of it.

It just took took up way too much time and there wasn't even any scholarship money for it (at the time). Instead I wish I pursued a leadership position in my sorority, got more involved with campus clubs and activities and had one or two more internships. I regret not establishing relationships with professors that could be greatly benefiting me right now as well. I really came to this realization when I stayed an extra year for my MBA. I got very involved then, which made me realize my mistake as an undergrad.

I did a stint in the Army, then worked overseas for the feds for eight years then went to college. You really need to go when you're 18 to get the full blown experience and capitalize on your alumni connections early in your career. At 30, I treated it like a job: get in, get it done, move on.

It's always better to have and not need, than to need and not have. The IT degree launched my second career, and I always felt like it was something I wanted as much as needed. It was always out there that "here's this thing you could do", and when the opportunity arose, I capitalized on it.

After coming from a normal coed high school, it was a major emotional mistake. Was great academically, though -- leading to work in advertising and conversation role-playing software. But socially it was a big mistake. Should've gone to a coed college. Hindsight is 20-20 of course

I went back to school as an adult after the military and still didn't "know" any better. Now I tell my students to "do what I say, not what I did," and hopefully their lives will be easier for it.
