Madeleine Lethaby Hey fellow Careerists! I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Facebook "Like" promotions. One of my clients is trying to increase their fan base on FB and Twitter so were thinking of creating a competition (1 yr program with a personal trainer) where people needed to click "like" to enter and encourage their friends to as well. The more friends who enter, the better chance of winning. SO MY QUESTION TO YOU: is this an effective or ineffective way to build a fan base and create loyalty?

And that's the going method out there... create a contest to get "Likes" offer something related to your business. I do it for my job too. However, personally, I *rarely* click on any "Like" for facebook anymore, b/c I don't like the company's practices. I'm much more likely to participate in a twitter contest. (but that's just me).

And once you solve that problem, when people are signing up, how do you plan to create a connection that will keep them sticking around long after your promotion is over?

It doesn't strike me as a bad start for a plan, but in its current form it needs work.

Yes, we do have a communication plan in place once we have loaded the contest. It'll include a bunch of content rich blog entries, videos, and guest contributors in regular bursts.

We have also appointed a Community Manager who will be monitoring comments/interations across all our channels (twitter, FB, blog, website, Youtube, etc) and will be highly engaged, personal, friendly and helpful!

We will have a really nifty FB app which contestants will load when entering the comp. The app will track 'likes' and friend's 'likes' which is simple to monitor.

As mentioned before, we have a plan wrapped around this contest to keep members engaged post contest.

Thanks!
