Rod Larking: I'd have to say its better to just start! getting the right fit to your skills is not always easy in a non-profit, and not always productive to ...MoreI'd have to say its better to just start! getting the right fit to your skills is not always easy in a non-profit, and not always productive to think of the traditional career path unless you ahve very specific transferable skills. lots of non-profits will grow while you are there and oppurtunities for motivated people always arise ... all that matters is that you are there to take them.

with non profits there is as much networking as in any other career pat, i am sure you will find yourself working at all sorts of organisations throughout your working life!

But just like the corporate world, good workers advance because they are good. In small organizations, you're a big fish in a little pond. People will get to know you and you can advance by moving to other organizations. If you're in a big organzation and you are not good at your job, you will not advance.
