TOP IDEA: Ty Unglebower I wish you could have "mini-careers". You'd would work someplace for 6 months, or a year, without the need to commit your entire career. People would know going in it would be temporary. This would allow many people for a time to make productive use of their passion for a specific cause or entity, and cut back on the "what ifs". Plus, people could feed themselves while they did so, unlike an internship. At the end of the term, they are not stigmatized as "job-hoppers", but are seen as explorers.

JenG: Ty, why not? While this isn't common practice, I don't think there's anything stopping you. I think it's a great idea!

You could do a mini-career type thing, you would just have to set it up on a contract basis with each employer. Then you would not be considered a job-hopper if it is contract based work. ^_~

(Well, very few people would do it, and certainly not some of the places I had in mind.)

Carla-Good point, but some of the some limitations apply. I confess I don't think i have the talent to create a job description for myself, and then convince these places that they need me to do it. (Especially since some of the organizations I had in mind are quite well entrenched and large.)

If I knew somebody within the organizations, then maybe.

You could explore and eat and pay your bills.
