Matthew Bingham One day I was trying to figure out how my wife and I could be more financially responsible. Now, we are fairly responsible to begin with but there is always room for improvement. I came up with the CASH system. It stands for Clean, Arrange, Save, and Health. I kind of stole the idea from the manufacturing process of 5S. On top of all the regular budget systems (Auto deduct to savings, no cc debt, etc.), this let's you make much more educated decisions when you need/want something. MTC!

Bradley O: Would you happen to have a link that describes this system in a bit more detail?

I was going to provide bits and pieces of it here on Brazen to get some feedback - from there maybe throw it out in the blog world. In a nutshell, it's a system that not only helps you mentally, but financially. Clean just means to keep things clean - two reasons...It's nice to have things clean, but also, when you keep your items clean (Cars, dwelling, toys) it means you are constantly looking at them and can see signs of wear earlier - thus, saving you money in the long run because you aren't finding stuff when it needs replacing. Arrange simply means, know what you have. How often do you go to a store and say "Do we need this - let's just buy it in case." We did this a lot especially with toiletries. Not that it goes to waste, but it's money you didn't need to spend. Save means save - it's the overall goal here so it should be part of it. It means to buy in bulk, wait for the good deals on grocer items (4/10 on pepsi 12 packs and get 8 of them), use coupons. Last is health. Excercise - it's cheap (jogging around the block four times doesn't cost anything) and it's a release. Plus, if you spend time being healthy it's less time you will think about buying things or spending money on needless items. It obviously also lowers medical costs to stay healthy which is the biggest goal here. Stay healthy not only physically but Mentally - now, i'm not a born again christian or anything, but I found that spending an hour in church allows you to self reflect while not spending money...this could be Yoga for some, Pilates for others - you get the drift.

These are obviously the high points - I could go into great detail about each one but let me know thoughts on feedback. It's pretty basic and not rocket science but it works.

Right now I am just getting the idea down and getting feedback (which I appreciate yours by the way) so pretty much just discussing it. Each of the four areas could be it's own blog post.

( I know this is a work in progress, just making some suggestions.)
I think people do most of those things without fiscal responsibilities, but you clearly have some thoughts on how it could.

I'm making the connection that in doing it you can put that fiscal responsibilit to it if you aren't already. Thanks for the suggestions/feedback.
