Raina Hi All. I was interviewed at a small company recently that is looking to launch a database to keep pharma companies aware of what's happening with various pipeline products, ie, where the product is in its development. The woman who developed the database wants to market it to pharma companies, but she's stretched thin. Would social media marketing help her to get the word out about her product? Would so appreciate your insights and help.

If these are super innovative products for hospital use, you may want to double check on the use of social media by doctors. I'd wager it's lower than that of nurses and students, who you might want to target if the product would appeal to nurses or to the general public as an available resource at resale pharmacies. I know you're really interested in targeting pharma companies, but the prospect of engaging end-users might help you attract pharma companies if they see a groundswell of interest from their target market. Does that make sense?

You would never market a product in development that wasn't FDA-approved to consumers. The government would shut you down, your stock price would plummet, etc. No offense, but if it were legal, companies would already be doing it. The SEC, FDA, and FTC would all be on your a--. Think business-to- business marketing, not direct-to-consumer.

If you're a small pharma company with an innovative product, but not enough capital to launch DTC campaigns and the like, you'd want your company to be acquired by a bigger company. The database that tracks products in development could only ever be a b2b product. Hope that makes sense. If you want to learn more about the pharma world, pre-consumer, let me know. I'd be happy to chat.

Raina: @Donovan, not looking to pay for advice, thank you. I have some of my own ideas, but if you'd like to talk about it, I'm all ears.
