Dale Beermann Is anyone using Basecamp for project management? I'm evaluating it right now and find it really frustrating. I shift milestones and all of the todos are still under the old dates. It's nearly impossible to effectively change a project plan from what I can tell. Does anyone have other suggestions? Pivotal Tracker looks interesting, and it's free. I need something that can do project management and time tracking for consulting gigs.

I've used both with small company clients since they can get rolling for free, then buy more capacity as their business grows. THe only restriction for each is the number of users (employees), so it also well-manages the sprints for many projects. Both of these are Agile tools

There are many project management tools that target existing Basecamp users; able to import Basecamp data, with enhanced functionalities. I found 5pm www.5pmweb.com promising (though I haven't used it extensively).

I Would just say to you use Basecamp at your own risk.
However in my opinion, Using Basecamp is ludicrous because it is a webbased software which means that all the Information and media is at a high risk of being compromised.
Although, it may be easier to catch and convict for information theft (ie hackers) because of the companies large stance it is always at highrisk.

Although I haven't tried all of the above products, it definitely has the most powerful tool-set I've seen.

The problem with really feature-rich PM tools is that 1) to really get the most from them, you have to use ALL of the tools 2) if you're working with non-PMs, they have no idea how to read/edit anything you do. It becomes a job on its own, so make sure that the project actually warrants that much detailed planning. Most don't.
