Where ambitious young professionals connect and grow

Tom Volkar

Tom Volkar is an experienced life and career coach who helps would-be entrepreneurs find the confidence to make the leap to the freedom of self-employment.

Tom uses a proven, holistic, spiritual approach to help his clients tap into their inner resources and bring forth their authentic work.

Tom left behind a 23-year, award winning, straight-commission, sales career because it no longer brought him alive. Once losing everything in an entrepreneurial effort, he’s risen from the ashes to come back stronger than ever.

“I want to help you find your freedom, financial prosperity and fulfillment through the delight of being your own boss. Sometimes work is going to stress you out regardless, so why not at least invest your blood and tears in an effort to benefit you and yours? There is a special business that you were meant to build and it’s my sacred honor to help you find it and successfully launch it. If necessary, I’ll kick your butt, hold you to your agreements, encourage the fear right out of you and make you strong. I want to teach you how to follow-through and leverage your connections, resources and strengths.” says Tom.

Tom coaches internationally via phone from his home office in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

He is past president of The Pittsburgh Coaches Association and life long rugby player.

Tom loves working out, biking and playing in No Limit Texas Holdem poker tournaments.

When I first considered working with an entrepreneurship coach, I had doubts as to how much of an effect a coach could have but thought any help is beneficial. After all, one of the big reasons I left Corporate America and decided to start my own company was the desire for freedom to live and work how I saw fit. The last thing I needed was another boss figure to tell me how to act!

Once career coach Tom Volkar and I started talking though, it quickly became apparent that Tom was not there to replace my old boss, but rather to truly step in as a coach figure and help me in my self-employment journey. A career coach will not do your work for you, but he can and will make it a lot easier for you to accomplish your goals. When I started meeting with Tom my daily schedule was quite hectic as I was flying around trying to accomplish 15 different things at once, and thus barely making any progress.

Right off the bat Tom helped clear aside obstacles and focused my attention on clear, attainable goals. Together we decided upon a step by step plan to achieving my goals. Although it seems obvious in hind sight, Tom's ability to dig down to the core actions I needed to complete allowed me to truly focus on the important tasks I needed to get done. Once I realized which tasks are immediately important, it became much, much easier to get things done.

Today I sit here with my company's home site launched (the42ndestate.com) and we are actively progressing towards the launch of our first web property, OTIBR.com, a review site that reviews anything and everything (launching on September 29 2008). A few months ago, I had a belief in myself and my partners that we could accomplish all our goals, but we were all a bit hazy on exactly how to get there. Today we not only have that belief, but we also have a clear plan and proven accomplishments that show us we're on the right track. Whereas we once were a group of bulls steadfastly running across a field on our own, today we're a train on a track moving in unison to our destination.

You may picture a career coach as someone who yells at you or shout commands or forces you to run laps, let me assure you Tom Volkar is not one of those coaches! Rather, he does an incredible job of quickly getting to know you and figuring out how to help you. You quickly realize he's not following a formula or script but rather listens, advises and motivates. Tom basically walks with you as you lay out your plans, describe your impediments and helps you to overcome those obstacles. The focus is rarely on Tom and it never felt like he was bossing me around or prodding, rather his advice was always simple, clear and motivating.

I had my doubts before we started, but sitting here approaching our last coaching call in a few days I not only realize the immense benefit of his advice but also wish I had more coaching time with Tom! Still, I am not saddened or scared as his advice has always been so insightful that it not only helped me through certain situations but will continue to help me time and time again as I march towards achieving my goals.

If you're an entrepreneur or even just thinking of entering the exciting field of self-employment, do yourself and your company a favor and give career coach Tom Volkar a call.
