Alexandra Levit is the founder and president of Inspiration @Work, a career consulting firm. A former nationally syndicated career columnist with Tribune Media Services and a current blogger for HuffingtonPost.com and Getthejob.com, Alexandra has authored several books, including the popular They Don't Teach Corporate in College, How'd You Score That Gig? and Success for Hire . Provide them with a functional resume that highlights your creative skills and experience. Place them in the context of how they have helped you contribute to the bottom line. Request a sit down meeting with your recruiter to go over the new resume and further explain what you're looking for in your next position.

Effective damage control means taking responsibility for your actions. Honestly assess the situation and look at it from the other person’s viewpoint. Let go of your pride. It takes guts to go back and make it right, and your colleague or client will respect you for it. Explain that you’re still learning and assure him it won’t happen again. Can’t stomach an in-person conversation? Write a heartfelt letter or e-mail instead. He will likely be receptive to the overture, and now, instead of thinking you’re an idiot, he’ll perceive that you’re mature beyond your years.

How should you negotiate for more flexible hours (especially if you haven't been with your company for very long)?

First, check existing company policies that dictate when flexible hours are appropriate. If there are other people in your department who are already working flexible schedules, it shouldn't be unreasonable for you to hop on the bandwagon.

In making an argument for flex time, always put the company first. For example, if you want to work from home one day per week, tell your boss that you plan to get more work done in less time due to the minimization of distractions and not having to commute. Ask for a trial of the new arrangement, and prove the cost-savings by working much more productively and efficiently on that home day than you do during your in-office days.
