When it comes to business books, I’m like the anorexic girl at the five star restaurant. Always order, never eat. Push the food around on my plate.

In my last article What Is Professionalism, my focus was to make the concept clear in order to have a valid ground to highlight the importance of professionalism in the workplace. Professionalism is not only important at our individual level but the demonstration of the same in normal working routine has significant positive effects. Everywhere I turn these days, I get so overwhelmed by the massive sense of dread and despair. The Swine Flu is spreading, industry is closing, people are losing jobs, money is tight, and people are losing their homes.

Today was just one of those days. The workplace has decked its halls and people are feeling the holiday spirit. That being said, people today were mean. Not mean to my face, but hiding behind their emails. Now I'm all for straight talk. Let's not spend half a conference call talking about how your weekend was or all the shopping you were able to complete over your noon hour.
