A few weeks ago I interviewed this amazeballs woman named Jill Tarter, the director of SETI (the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence). I know you've never heard of her, but you've definitely heard of her work: Jodie Foster's character in Contact (pre-actually finding aliens (or not?) in the film) is based on her life.

Before dropping off your first application for a summer job, you should first first stop and define what the perfect summer job looks like.  Some teens would love to spend the summer working at a camp, and others would be content setting up their own business.  Make sure you define what you are looking for before you start shopping for jobs.

My new job has changed the way I carry cash.

NMS uses a credit card sized key fobs for entering the building, too large to strap on my key chain.

I have no problem stashing the card in my wallet until I realized my wallet was bursting at the seams with plastic.

AKA: In which I tell the universe what kind of job to send me.

A few weeks ago a friend (let’s call her Carla) and I were discussing our bosses and the undying love (not) that each of us has for our jobs. I told Carla how I had no intention or desire to work in state government, yet here I am.  I went on to tell her how state government sucks and I hate every minute of it.

Earlier this year I posted about the Coca-Cola Happiness Machine and had a handful of friends outside of the industry send me emails about how cool it was. (Side note: They weren’t comfortable commenting on the blog even though it’s mine because they aren’t in advertising.

I'm a quitter. I've tried everything, and I've quit everything. When I was a kid, I played soccer for a week, took piano for a few months, art lessons after school for a semester. I did community theater off and on through middle and high school. I attended a live-in art school for five weeks my junior year, first as with a theater concentration, then a vocal music when that didn't satisfy me anymore.

Once upon a time in the late 1990s I went to a fancy art school in San Francisco.  Classes consisted of drawing naked people followed by lunch at Pier 39, getting schooled on copy writing by currently employed copy writers and spending hours in the Mac lab sandwiched between Photoshop and Illustrator.
I met plenty of starving artists with rich parents, who dropped acid and smoked stuff to get

A quick update – spring is by FAR the busiest time of year at my job…two out of the three main stressors, though, are out of the way (Thursday and Friday of last week).  Unfortunately, I woke up Thursday with a horrible crick in my neck, and couldn’t call in because of the aforementioned huge projects that I was in charge of.  Saturday morning when my arm started to go numb, Jake took me to urgent care and I’ve been bli
