At a Mac showroom, everything is clean lines and minimalism. You don’t have to wade through aisles of options on clunky track shelving as at Best Buy or Microcenter. The staff is easily identifiable my matching t-shirts. And no one pressures you to buy anything; having a conversation with a Mac staffer is like having a conversation with a friend.

Why do you want people to blog about your conference? Because you put on good conferences and word-of-mouth is one of the best marketing tools out there. If a blogger brings attention to your event, you are reaching an audience you would not have otherwise reached. And if your conference sounds good, they’ll be more likely to attend next year.

How great would that be? For those of you that are not familiar with Microsoft Exchange, the idea is this: Being able to sync your phone with Facebook. Everyone in your Facebook social graph becomes a contact in your phone.

Exports and exploitation aside, though, I think the root of the problem is the mentality that says we have to have the latest, greatest, shiniest toys, and anything older than two months or so is just passé. Maybe it’s time to reexamine that assumption.

It robs you of your life at parties. It makes you contemplate suicide on airplanes. It doubles your time at the gym, and usually slaps you around at the mall.

The next phase of the Internet will be the Semantic Web. It’s based on the meaning or interpretation of language, communication, or other information–deriving meaning from the data on the Internet. Maybe that’s too much to expect?

Email is and will probably be safe for at the very least another decade or so. All the tools that we use, especially Twitter, are early adopter tools. Early adopters are more adept at using other forms of communication than the rest of the world including enterprises.

Why should students care about social technologies? The way I see it, we can help show our schools how to use these cool technologies and make the college community just a little bit tighter and a little bit better connected.
