Do you feel like you’re sending your resume down endless black holes? Not getting interviews? They might be getting hung up in HR-which means you need to go to the source: the hiring manager.

Personal branding has become critical in this age of microwave celebrity status.  If you have watched any reality television lately, you know that makeover shows have become very popular.  In the span of a 30 minute show, someone can go from a rough...

You’re looking for a new job, and you’re on Twitter. What should you say in 140 characters or less that would help you reach your goal?

Dan Schawbel is one of the authorities on the topic of personal branding, particularly for the Millennial generation. I am happy to serve as a co-editor of Personal Branding Magazine, along with Jessica Lewis. The new, free sample issue is available. This is how Dan describes it:

In the corporate world, politics and attitude are just as important as skills. There was an article I've read in the Harvard Business Review citing an excellent performer who was eventually fired because he couldn't work with his boss. Tension was evident right from the onset of their professional relationship. Since neither had a clear understanding of each others quirks, the company suffered.

Career development plans of the past have been way overrated. You are promised one thing and you end up without being selected for the job, or maybe even for an interview. Would you like to know the real success secrets used by working women and...

I watched in horror as I heard this prospective candidate for leadership call the evening before “trite”.  It was almost like slow motion when the words came out – you know, just like in the movies where the voice slows down and...

In a competitive job environment, I have often advised that clients and readers consider volunteering and/or interning for free in order to gain some valuable experience and/or to bridge a gap (in experience/in time since last worked for pay, etc.)

Under the “you never know what will inspire you to blog” category, I was listening to a local radio show last week – The Bert Show in Atlanta. They were interviewing Chilli (Rozonda Thomas) from TLC – @officialchilli on Twitter. You’re waiting for the career connection?

Just because one person has spent 10 or so years in the company doesn't automatically mean that he or she is promotion material. Promotion should be first and foremost, based on merit. Further, the person should have the competency to take more challenges and must have the leadership skills to make the team more efficient in carrying out their duties.

If you’re planning to seek employment elsewhere and you are very much employed at the moment, will you tell your boss that you are applying with other companies? The thought sounds silly to me. In fact, I’ll be a 100% idiot if I do that. Should I decide to quit my current job, I would never ever tell my boss that I am looking for a better paying job, let alone tell my boss, in his face, that my salary is just not enough. Here’s the scenario.
