The 10 Most Stressful Jobs of 2014: Did Yours Make the List?

If you think your job is stressful, check out CareerCast’s recently released list of The Most Stressful Jobs of 2014.

Unsurprisingly, the majority of jobs selected involve stress of a truly acute nature, including “unpredictable conditions, immediate dangers and high-stakes situations.” Enlisted military personnel ranked number one, with first responders like firefighters and police officers also making the list.

But not all of the most stressful jobs involve a risk to personal safety. Other jobs that got high marks for stress include PR executive and corporate executive — positions fraught with tight deadlines, lots of responsibility and high public visibility.

Do any of these rankings surprise you? Are there any jobs you think should have made the list, but didn’t?

None of these are even close to being as stressful as the one year I spent in the Bering Sea as a crab fisherman. “Deadliest Catch” barely scratches the surface on how stressful it was. It’s safer now than when I was there in the ’90s, but not by a whole bunch.
