Katie Konrath is literally a master of creativity! She recently completed a Masters degree in Innovation from the University of Malta's Institute of Thinking and studied creative thinking in Russia, Malta, London, Minnesota and Iowa. In 2006, she worked for creativity guru Edward de Bono and became a certified Lateral Thinking instructor.
Katie blogs about creativity, innovation and "ideas so fresh, they should be slapped!" at http://www.getfreshminds.com.
Katie earned her undergraduate degree in Classical Languages from Luther College in Iowa. She chose that major because she loves Greek mythology and wanted to read Homer's Iliad in its original form. Her undergraduate experience was rounded out with classes in business management, interpersonal communications, systematic innovation, entrepreneurship, writing and improvisational theater.
As a student, Katie competed in the Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination creative problem-solving programs. During her 8 years of competition, she won one Global Championship, placed twice as Global Runner-up, was awarded Minnesota's highest creativity award, and spoke at the graduation ceremony for long-time program participants.
In the last year, Katie has been dividing her time between Minnesota and Germany. She's not great at German yet, but she's thrilled that people are actually starting to understand her. Katie also just started working for a really cool environmental start-up that is getting a lot of people excited about envelopes.
Katie Konrath's blog is Get Fresh Minds.
Anything and everything is possible. Do you doubt that? Then consider that 20,000 years ago, animals were either sources of food or competitors to humans. Today many animals are daily companions that share their lives with their people.
Running low on creativity? Not able to finish that big project, stuck behind a writer’s block, or just lacking the motivation to get started on your dream? You might be running low on your supply of creative juice.
Idea Champions just put out the results of a poll they did asking people where they get their best ideas. The answers are interesting - ranging from getting ideas while “mowing the lawn” to “using a creativity exercise.” Here are all the best places for killer creativity.
When you’re around someone, buying them a beer is a quick and simple way to connect. It doesn’t cost much, but it always make the other person feel happy and appreciated. But, it’s not so easy to do that from far away. Which is why I really think YouGotBeer.com is a great idea.
I absolutely love books on how to be more creative, especially when they’re quirky and fun. So, I’m really excited that today getFreshMinds is the first stop on the A Whack on the Side of the Head virtual book tour.
It’s really, really tough to be creative and come up with new ideas when you’re working really hard and dog tired! When every day is filled to the bursting point with meetings, projects, and (of course) those last minute things that “need to get done now”, time for creativity always seems to get shoved lower and lower on an ever-expanding todo list […]
On this blog, I work really hard to see the value in each and every idea. It’s far better to look for possibilities in a “bad” idea, than to simply dismiss it outright and walk away. After all, who knows…
