Alyssa Carter

Alyssa Carter is from Oregon’s lovely capitol, Salem. She graduated from the University of Oregon in early December, 2007 with a degree in Journalism (public relations) as well as a minor in Business. She spent the first three years of her college life on campus in Eugene where she worked at a call center in student fundraising. In September 2007, she moved to Portland to finish her last term through the Portland Senior Experience, a program designed to give selected PR students a chance to gain “real-world” experience in thriving Portland. At the same time, she worked as an intern in the Creative Strategies department at Umpqua Bank.

Post-graduation and internship she traveled to a military base in Vicenza, Italy where she worked 40 hours a week with preschoolers – definitely different than her usual writing jobs. Now, as a recent graduate with (in her opinion) a killer resume, she's beginning the elusive job search. It might not be the best luck that the economy isn’t doing so hot right now. And it might not have been the best planning for her to have signed a year-long lease on her current apartment in downtown Portland (which she’ll soon have trouble financing with lack of employment opportunities). Either way, she hopes you enjoy the rants on her PR blog, which hopefully will be backed up by a PR job soon.

Alyssa Carter's blog is prstuffetc.

It amazes me how technology is completely revolutionizing the world, and PR is no exception. It seems like every day traditional PR fades a little more and the new digital stuff becomes more distinct. When I graduated, U of O’s PR program was just starting to dive into new media […]

Be forewarned. This isn’t really a “PR Blog” — but just what my life has been consumed by the past few weeks. If you’re looking for inspiration, I’m sure there are more insightful things on the Internet. If you’re wondering the steps to a legal name change, read on.In certain cultures the last name is […]

I’m starting to wonder why there is no class you can take that teaches you how hard it is to transition from college to the real world. Ok, maybe saying that having a class would make it all better is a little naive, but I wasn’t prepared at all for the lifestyle change post […]

I’m a horrible decision maker. Watch me at the grocery store trying to decide between something as trivial as what kind of spaghetti sauce to buy and you might cringe when you imagine how long it takes for me to make a life decision. Unfortunately for me, it’s during […]

When I was little I played softball for seven years — and I have seven trophies to show for it. Was I particularly good at softball? Absolutely not. But did I get a […]

Week 4. Under any normal circumstance (or past circumstance, rather), I would be referring to my progression into my ten week stretch of classes. Ah, to be a student. Unfortunately, I cut that dream short in December when I did the “responsible” thing and graduated…about six months early. Sure, that’s two terms of college that […]
