Is Nike right? Can you just do it?
I had this conversation with someone the other day and it got me to thinking about this slogan. Nike's "Just Do It" phrase is known world over and repeated far and wide. It's synonymous with Nike's sneaks and lifestyle beliefs. But does that really translate well into real life?
In my case, I often need a vision and a big reason for my actions and so when I don't want to do anything, I usually can talk myself into it with the phrase "just do it". For example, I don't always want to go to the gym 5 days a week, but I have a vision and a goal for myself and I can't achieve that vision unless I get off my duff and get to the gym. Chores? Same thing. In order to have a clean home that I will enjoy living in, I need to sweep and dust, and that's enough of a reason to just do it.
Some people need much more motivation, reasoning and coaxing though to do anything. They have different needs when it comes to getting motivated to put actions into play. Some seem to need daily cheering or very frequent reasons why they should be doing it. I'm not sure if the vision isn't enough or they need reminding of that vision.
The conversation I had showed a deep difference between myself and the other person that I haven't quite wrapped my head around. Are you someone who can 'just do it'? Do you need extra or more motivation? Share your take on this and help me understand!
