Greetings young professional and rising leader!
Today I want you to take some time to stop and think about the road ahead.
Far too often we get so caught up in looking back or concentrating on where we are today, that we don’t effectively plan for the road ahead.
If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there!
The best leaders are planners.
Now don’t me wrong, a leader must also be able to think on his or her feet and conquer the unexpected/unplanned, but they minimize the occasions for which they do not have a plan.
Have you spent some time planning your future lately?
If yes, great job! You are moving in the right direction. If not, we have some work to do now don’t we?
Unless you run into a massive amount of luck, your first or next promotion will not just be handed to you. There are things you will need to do, on your own, to help position yourself as the best candidate for your future job.
As a young professional and rising leader, you need to be aware of who you are as a professional.
By that I mean, what are your strengths and weaknesses? What do you enjoy and what do you really dislike? Where have you been, where are you know, and where would you be headed if it was all up to you?
Stop and think about these questions. They seem simple and basic at first glance, but you would be surprised at home many people don’t know the answer to them.
To ensure you set yourself up for success, you have to think about your future constantly.
What moves can you make today that will accelerate your career? Similarly, what moves if made today will slow you down or put you three steps back.
No matter where you work, or even if you work for yourself, planning is a critical leadership quality that helps ensure success.
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
