I love the number 10. So round and even; simple and beautiful. It’s going to be a great year, people, I know it!
I’m kicking this year off with a two-minute video post in which I share my silly new nickname and talk about the importance of relaxing a bit amidst all of our striving and resolutions; even Patches (my 14-year-old dog) makes a cameo. With that, I belatedly raise a champagne glass to you all. Cheers!
Can I use your post to ask a general question about video blogging? I don't get it. What I mean by I don't get it, is that it feels like the greatest misuse of a presenting medium since power point. Most of the videos that I see, like this one, the presenter just talks. They don't do anything that couldn't be written in a blog post, no physical demonstrations, scenery, just talking. Since people can read twice as fast as someone can talk, it just takes me twice as long to see/read the post.
I clicked on the video to see what you looked like. Is the theory behind video blogging, that because readers can see what you look like, it creates more of a connection or sense of community?
Your topic was interesting but I personally would have rather read it than watched it. Probably because I got distracted by the camera coming soooo close to cutting off the bun or pony tail (not sure what the hair style was).
I probably sound critical, but I have a feeling that you would have a good explanation for why people video blog when they're just talking into the camera.
@Dead Hedge: For me, video blogging provides me with a way to connect w/ people beyond their written words. I like that video blogging allows me to see the animated person behind the blog. I'm definitely a fan, but it's not for everybody.
I thought Jenny did a great job. I hope to see more of these.
@Randy - Thanks so much! Have a great 2010 to you as well :D
@Dead Hedge - I don't think video blogging should be the only outlet for getting messages across, but as Ryan said, I think it is nice for readers to see the face behind a blog's content sometimes. This was my first video post in about three months - so it's definitely not something I rely on to convey information. Generally speaking, I'm with you in that I also prefer to read posts since I can do that more quickly. I tend to do videos when I have something personal to say - or in this case, genuinely want to wish everyone a Happy New Year.
@Ryan - thanks for the kinds words! I'll try to keep more of them coming - going to aim for once a month if I can :D
