This Saturday was the first snow fall in DC. It was the kind of snow that you really wanted to stick. In reality, It just snowed and snowed and was cold and wet and windy. Aside from dragging my husband out of the house to purchase a chai latte (Hey, we all have our addictions…), I remained in the house, and for the first time really appreciated it.
It is in these days, in these moments, where you feel most at home doing things like baking, or reading, or laying around and relaxing. Your to-do lists seem far away, and you want to get back to the basics. You create a time for yourself that is separate from all the other things you deal with on a regular basis.
For me, the most exciting part was creating food. I made scones!

Blueberry Scones
Okay, technically they were from Whole Foods and all I had to do was add the water and mix. Fine. Point taken. But, you know, baby steps!
The process went a little like this:

The extent of the preparation
Followed by:

The baking! Almost there.
And finally,

The final product.
It was really great to have that feeling of a housewife, albeit temporarily. I am normally so into the business of work and planning and preparation for intangible things. Working on a blog, helping to develop my skills as a writer, learning social media and web design, nonprofits/grant writing. It is a lot of creating with few things that I can hold in my hand.
These days are important. I definitely don’t think I could live a life of just cooking and baking – but there is something to be said for seeing a project through start to finish, and having something (delicious) to say for it at the end.
OH. And just to solidify my productivity, I watched Twilight New Moon online.

Isn't She Teenage Angsty?
Sometimes, creation and relaxation don’t have to be as profound as you think.
I do have those moments when I like to think of myself as a domestic goddess. I put on the pearls, clean and vacuum (yes, in the pearls), cook a fabulous dinner (call me Julia Child), and then relax knowing that I could have guests pop over at any minute. Now, I don't live with anyone or have pets, so I do all of this for me, and that's what I love. I'm not cleaning up after anyone, which is why it's calming. Not to say that I am always this way, or will be forever, but it's something that I love to do for now. And that's the great part of Me Time.
I'm by no means a domestic goddess (but I am a kickass cook for what it's worth!). I do agree that just being able to do something, and see it through to the end is a great thing.
I find folding laundry really relaxing, so that's what I did. It's nice to see the neat piles all laid out :)
Sometimes we forget that we don't always have to be so hard on ourselves. That taking time to just do something by and for ourselves is okay.
Good on ya. Those look wonderful by the way :)
