Social networking sites are often advertised as a place where you can socialize with friends, family and acquaintances. Nobody ever thought they’d find purpose in background checks! But then more and more recruiters and employers are using these sites as a valuable tool when screening potential employees.
Anytime you exercise using used stationary bikes, your brain releases chemicals known as endorphins that produce a feeling of euphoria, which is known as “runners high”, which is also very easy to become chemically addicted to.
Go on, be ecstatic … you deserve it! Getting hired is definitely an achievement. But after the celebration, it’s time to step back and plant your feet firmly on the ground and remind yourself that this is a new beginning and you have plenty to do. Getting the job is half the battle … keeping it is the other half!
How many times have you woken up in the last year, month, day, knowing that you were about to do something remarkable? How many times have you felt like you were changing the World with every action you had penciled into your calendar?
Lies. Deceit. Mislead. When you look at society, a lot of everything around us is plain and simple lies. And when it comes to the online world, there’s more lies than you can shake a stick at. As I’m writing this, it’s a really beautiful day, one of the last cooler/low humidity days we’ll have until it shoots back up in the 90′s, so this post isn’t going to be super long, at least I don’t think so.
Meet up with local Brazen members and discuss what brought you to your city in the first place. Why is it so great? Why is it not so great? With enough support, what could you change?
There’s a great simple luxury that so many universities hold, and that is the power of networking. While any one person can go out and find contacts, possibly exploiting them for their value, organized events are by far the work-horse of networking power. Later this week Appalachian State University is hosting its Business Career Symposium.
I think we, as a society, don’t give the fine art of compromise enough credit. We’re an “all or nothing” kind of people. We avoid the middle ground because it feels indecisive. It’s better to just pick a side; “go big or go home” as they say.
I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes products successful (or not), and was following a discussion on an email list that I participate in (The Inbox Insiders, a collective of email marketing experts from vendors, agencies, and brand marketers) that prompted me to write here about some of the parallels.
I had this conversation with someone the other day and it got me to thinking about this slogan. Nike's "Just Do It" phrase is known world over and repeated far and wide. It's synonymous with Nike's sneaks and lifestyle beliefs. But does that really translate well into real life?
Last week I jumped on the Brazen Careerist for a damn good webinar hosted by Brazen’s community guru Ryan Paugh. The webinar was headlined by Ramit Sethi, author of the best selling book I Will Teach You To Be Rich and the blog with the same name. I will be honest, I have read Ramit’s content for a while now and early on I thought he was just another guy trying to sell his ideas at a high price to people who have money. Then I realized that that is the damn name of the game! Everything he has done and preaches about reflects his understanding his customer base!
These days, I meet many young nonprofit professionals who are in-between jobs. They’re going to happy hours trying to find leads to their next job, using their online networks to figure out who’s hiring, and sending their resume to everyone they know. They’re volunteering for good causes and visiting old high school friends in their abundance of free time. In short, they are doing everything but working. If you’re unemployed right now and in the midst of a job search, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a temporary job to bring in the Benjamins while you look for your next permanent gig.
ate one evening as I was writing in my journal, I reflected on how my day had gone. Frankly, it had been a pretty lousy day, and I vented in my journal as I fumed to myself.
