I get asked A LOT of questions about Millennials, but I don’t get asked nearly as many questions as I ask others on a daily basis. Most times if I am too embarrassed to ask someone my question I google it to find the answer. Googling doesn’t always work though, because sometimes it takes me to Yahoo Answers. If you aren’t familiar with Yahoo Answers, it is the most ridiculous collection of questions on random topics, with numerous answers posted by regular, sometimes not so smart people. In fact, some of the postings are so random and hilarious there is even a blog about them.
It got me thinking though, if I Google stupid questions than people with questions about Millennials Google their questions too. Which is why I decided to hop onto Yahoo Answers and see what people were asking about Millennials.
I’m concerned. And I think after you see the questions and answers you will know why. For example this person wanted to know how you would describe Millennials, and this was the best answer they could come up with.

Not exactly the answer the poster was probably looking for. Then, there was the person looking for help with an essay on Millennials.

And finally, my favorite…

Do you see now why I am concerned? Are people really getting their information from Yahoo Answers?
Hi Blake! Thanks so much for bringing this up. I'm going to bring this to the attention of my boss, Buddy Hobart who writes a blog (http://blog.genynow.com) about Gen Y. In addition to writing a book about our generation with ASU Men's Head Basketball Coach, Herb Sendek, Buddy works with Boomers to educate them on why our generation is not the things that were mentioned above. He considers himself a Gen Y advocate, and believes that with proper leadership, we can be the best thing to happen to organizations. Many of Buddy's efforts are focused around clearing up the types of misconceptions represented on Yahoo.
I think he will find the above post interesting and may want to blog about it.
As for the trophy comment, as Buddy always says, "Who bought them the trophies?!"
@Meghan, "As for the trophy comment, as Buddy always says, 'Who bought them the trophies?!'" Thank you thank you thank you!
I think people forget that those who come before and after shape each generation. It's not as if Gen-Y grew up in a bubble and is the way we are purely by nature. It's a product of nurture.
@Blake, I love your humor around these questions!
@Jake, I think one of the most worrisome things is that even if folks look deeper than yahoo answers to say, mainstream media, they will often be presented with similar misconceptions about our generation.
@Emily Glad you enjoyed that! Also, I agree that I enjoy Blake's humor.
@Blake, In fact I was giggling to myself earlier about also being embarrassed to ask something that I can google!
