Like a train wreck, I find myself wanting to turn away, but can't. The show contains that good shocking element that hooks/addicts you into wanting to see more. I watch in horror and in delight as druggies snort massive quantities of white, powdery substances up their membrane shredded noses. I nod my head to the right and stare as an emaciated 120lb father, husband and former star athlete ties his arm off with a leather belt and shoots lethal poison in his veins. Each featured drug addict stumbles around. Their eyes roll into the back of their skull and their mouth gapes open. They fall to the floor in an overwhelming high. Physically they are grounded. Mentally they are flying. And looking on, I’m envious.

The song by Keith Anderson, “The clothes don’t make the (wo)man” didn’t consider first impressions in the business world especially during the job search and interview process. Imagine super heros like Wonder Woman or Batman without their super hero uniform. What would your impressions be if they arrived on the crime scene in jeans and flip flops? Would their ability to do the job change or your perception of their expertise as a crime fighting superhero? A job seeker’s effectiveness, job fit, and perceived experience is constantly being evaluated from the resume, to the job interview, to your dress, and now even the car you drive.

In the recruitment world in the UK there are strict rules in relation to posting job adverts, collecting resumes and obtaining information from candidates that contain data reflecting their age.

My freshman year of college I was getting to know this guy (the story of “this guy” and his 3-year reign of terror on my life could be a full-length novel, and who knows maybe someday it will be) and I introduced him to PostSecret. He asked me what I would send in if I ever sent in a secret. I barely had to think about it. “I don’t think I’ve ever put a 100% effort into anything.” He had expected me to share something more frivolous like how I refuse to sit on public toilets (I’m a squatter), but then admitted that he had actually been thinking the same thing. The conversation led to all of the things we’d dabbled in and tried out but never actually put our full effort into, and it was then that I realized I am in fact a chronic half-asser.

By now regular readers will know I don't do things as most people do them. Much of the advice I get about what I "have to" do in order to be successful just doesn't apply to me. One of them is networking in the traditional sense. I don't believe in it, as defined by most people today. I don't go to many events for same, and when I do go, I don't behave as most do.

Yesterday I celebrated my one year anniversary with my fiance, Adam. See, hitting this “one year” mark, while initially symbolic of the healthy lifeline of my relationship, is pretty significant for me in a lot of ways. Because it’s really the year anniversary of many successful changes that I’ve made in my life in a short amount of time – changing cities, lifestyles, relationships, financial status and essentially careers. And while I’m beyond satisfied and proud of my accomplishments, as I said earlier, I try to always remember that it continues to be a work in progress. And it’s going to be…for a very…long…time.

I was into digging and dirt. I built dams in farmer’s streams. My buddies and I built earthen forts and tried tunneling. One of the best stand-by-me adventures was following a gas line excavation for miles, all day long. These types of experiences have shaped much of my life.

Yesterday I posed a question to Twitterland that received some interesting responses on both sides of the fence, so I figured I would bring it here to look into a little more deeper and have even more people chime in. The question was essentially, how do you feel about businesses/websites/organizations who have more than one Twitter account? One which is the more personable account (the face of the organization, much like Scott Monty is for Ford) and another that is primarily for news, company/site updates, and links to articles posted on the site?
