Tough Girl 101. When I tell real life friends that the name of my site is Tough Girl 101, it usually elicits a bit of a chortle, maybe a guffaw. It borders on too embarassing to say out loud… but that’s part of selling this damn thing. I suck it up, say it, and it usually sticks in people’s heads and once they start reading, the name of the blog is never forgotten!

Most of the keywords that lead people to me (via search engines) are related to my very arrogantly worded title. Look at the #2, #7, and #8 most used searches that lead people here! Some people are OBVIOUSLY looking for my blog.

Yes, naming my blog Tough Girl 101 gets me a few pokes in the ribs, and the occasional joke at my expense from well intentioned friends and a few “What an arrogant bitch!” remarks from not-so-well intentioned enemies… In the end, the title serves it’s purpose. It gets people’s attention, it’s easily remembered and it piques people’s curiosity.

Call it silly, but beating around the bush and sissy-footing around a more subtle title would not get the same results. Don’t believe me? How many blogs are entitled “The life of…” or “My inner thoughts…” or some other cliche. Step out. Be bold. Be successful. Fortune favors the bold.

I think being proud of the brand you are building is a virtue! When I firs told my friends my blog was called "People Sales" they all asked me when I began participating in the slave trade (I don't, by the way, for any crazy commenters). People will rag on you a bit, but you are creating a brand identity and those jabs don't matter, friendly or otherwise.

Kathleen, I have to tell you that when I first saw the name of your blog, I laughed. Not at you, but thinking, "That seems about right!"
