Gen Y is a common topic of discussion these days—on blogs, in the media and especially in corporate America. There are a lot of stereotypes, some good and some bad, but a resounding one you’ll hear over and over—Gen Y is ungrateful.
A Google search of Gen Y and ungrateful will yield nearly 80,000 results. That’s a lot of opinions trying to substantiate this belief. Obviously there is a reason the stereotype has been formed and perpetuated, but many Gen Y’rs are clearly not cut from that mold.
Enter Gen Y Gives Thanks.
Watch for "Gen Y Gives Thanks," an upcoming series in which I, the National Generation Y Examiner, will share the thoughts of Gen Y’rs from all over the United States and Canada. Responses are pouring in already and I can promise you, these are a bunch of immensely grateful 20-somethings.
And, because my high school journalism teacher taught me to always give credit where credit is due, I have to say this idea stems from the Appreciation Revolution, started by Gen Y blogger Samantha Karol. (More details on that later, but definitely check it out).
Be sure to watch for Gen Y Gives Thanks, starting Nov. 1. You just may change your mind about this stereotype.

@Rich I love that you say "interesting" with a question mark! ;) This will be great! The responses I've received so far are pretty incredible. I'm not looking for something in particular at all. I just want to use my national column as a platform to share the thoughts and insights of Gen Y'rs with fortitude and a spirit of thanksgiving. So, do a little mulling and I'll send you the full details. Thanks!
@Ryan Thank you for being so quick and helping me spread the word. From the response so far, I hope to feature 2 Gen Y'rs each day in November.
@Jesse Thanks so much! I would love for you to participate. I'll send you details! ;)
@Jennie I can only hope you're right. It definitely has the potential, but I need everyone to help get the word out. Can't wait to get your thoughts!
