Really, wine was never marketed to Gen Y? What about the "box of wine [is a box of fun]?" Or fruity wines like Boone's Farm, Mad Dog, and Arbor Mist? They are cheap and help first time drinkers adjust to the typical bitter taste.
With these products, who were the wine company's trying to target? People who couldn't afford quality wine, I think not!
